Tomita Technologies.

The Tomita Technologies Corporation can trace its roots back to the Sendai Sewing Factory in 1924.

Tadashi Tomita started a small business manufacturing typewriters and sewing machines under license in his home town of Sendai, Japan. This small operation eventually grew to accommodate the production of print machinery, providing printing for local newspaper companies. The company soon relocated to the outskirts of the city and constructed a larger factory.

Soon after, the company branched into the motorcycle engine industry, developing its own 250cc 'Tomita Lite-cycle' in 1932.

However, like many other Japanese firms, their manufacturing capabilities were used by the Imperial Japanese Army in the production of engines and later munitions for the war effort.
This made the company's factory a target of bombing raids from American bomber squadrons in the latter stages of the war.

Once the war had come to a close, the factory had been severely damaged and in 1946 the company changed its name. This was mostly an attempt to erase any connection to its war-time history.

In a period of about 20 years, the company expanded rapidly. In time, dropping its engine manufacturing in favour of pursuing the full-time production of typewriters and office printers. This made the companies transition into the design and production of computer hardware relatively straightforward.

Tomita Technologies has been a world leader in electronics ever since.

This United States Branch of the company was constructed in 1979 as Tomita started its period of commercial overseas expansion.
