Player's Guide to Triggerheart Exelica
By NeoStrayCat
Welcome fellow STG players, Triggerheart Exelica returns in more than a decade to appear on modern platforms for the current generation.

This guide will help you out on how Exelica works control wise, mode wise, and achievement wise.

Note: The current gen version is based off the Dreamcast version of modes (Arcade/Story/Arrange/Training), with the graphic fidelity of the Xbox 360 version. Scoring is based off the Arcade and Dreamcast version with the multiplier.

This does not include of the PS2 (Enhanced) version's additional content. (That means no playable Faintear, extended/expanded Story mode, and Gallery. Along with newly recorded audio/voices.)

However, Enhanced has since been released on console. A PC/Steam version will be out in July 2025.

Basic Info
Characters:
Exelica: Spread Shot that shoots everywhere on screen but takes longer to capture enemies and also slow movement.
Crueltear: Linear Shot that only shoots at a straight line, but is quicker to capture enemies, and also fast movement.

Using the Anchor:
There are two types to use...Manual and Auto.

Manual requires the use of holding the shot button, along with moving you character in specific directions, along with adjusting the speed, and inertia to rotate the enemy and also throw them in the specific direction you want. Not holding the shot button while moving will keep the enemy in place. Releasing the anchor button will throw or explode the enemy. (Using manual swing requires the auto swing option to be turned off.)

Auto however, will automatically rotate the enemy for you either clockwise or counter clockwise depending on the direction when you captured the enemy.

Using the anchor is vital to high scores, thrown enemies onto other enemies will yield bigger score items than just normally shooting the enemy. Be aware that some enemies cannot be thrown, such as bosses and ground enemies (as Overload will be displayed upon contact with a certain enemy via the Anchor).

Score Items:
Score items will appear on any action you do, however, you get more by throwing enemies onto other enemies and also defecting bullets with enemy rotation upon capture. Score Items can be grown for more score if the shot button is held down. Just be careful not to let them go off the screen. Release the shot button to automatically get the score items.

Bonus items:
Bonus items, such as Power Ups (P) and Bombs (B) will appear at certain points of them game to which you can pick them up. Power ups will increase your shot levels by 1, to a maximum of 3. Each power up pickup after that will be 10000 points. Bombs however, will increase your bomb stock by 1, to a maximum of 6. Each additional bomb pickup after the max of 6 will be 10000 points. Use them to get out of any unavoidable bullet patterns you might get hit by. You will lose any additional bomb stock if you happen to get hit by an enemy bullet.
---

True, but yeah, the V.B.A.S conditions (that was once displayed on the official site for older versions of Exelica back in the day, but is still archived) don't list how much you need for Faintear, specifically, just the boss forms themselves.

I'll go with your suggestion and update it correctly.

Yes, but it's just "a specific amount". Or "a certain item count".
Might as well say how many is actually needed.

@hibachi
I already brought that up under where the V.B.A.S. conditions are, but maybe I should be more specific here and there. (Guide is in constant editing.)

Apparently Faintear appears if you have 3000 score items in arcade mode once the boss is down, on both stages 1 & 3.
