Did you pay Garte for the room but still get locked out (without being able to finish the day)? Don't worry it's a common bug and unfortunately this happened to me often in my runs and initially, I didn't really know how to fix it other than starting all over again.

This bug is mainly due to the fact that the game, even after paying Garte, was (somehow) unable to actually give us the keys to our room. One way to solve this is to make a small change to our inventory.

So, let's fix this really annoying bug:

• Go to the savegame location: [YourDisk]:\Users\[YourUser]\AppData\LocalLow\ZAUM Studio\Disco Elysium\SaveGames
  
• Make a backup of your savegame
  
• Pick the buggy savegame .zip file and put in a folder (on your desktop or anywhere else you want)
  
• Extract files and edit with notepad the biggest .json file with a text editor (i use Sublime Text)
  
• There should be a function called "keys" (under the "bullets" function), use the find function on your notepad (generally the shortcut keyboard for find a text is CTRL+F) to find it more easily.
  
• Now you have to add the key names, in this case you have to write:
  
  "Key to Room #1"
  
  
  
  ATTENTION
  YOU MUST ADD A "," AFTER THE KEY NAME (like the photo below) BUT THE LAST ONE KEY MUST NOT HAVE A COMMA.
  
  
• Once you are done, you just need to compact the file in zip again and put it back in its previous location (obviously replacing the original file).

The key names are translated, so if you have the game in a different language, there are two ways:

1. Log in to your buggdy savegame, set the language to English and follow the procedure in the Fix section.
   
2. If you get bored of switching languages, compare the old savegames with the new ones and add the translated key names.

In my case, I have the game in Italian so I put the names of the keys in Italian. Simple.

Unfortunately, this bug could also happen other times, in other cases and for other rooms/locations in the game. I don't know why.
