What's the difference?
* Most of the other guides and videos were created while this version was relevant. If you played up-to-date version and were upset about it not being like the one that was shown by content creators and that you are not getting the same experience - this is your ticket.
* No Boat Customization Options. Makes boats truly unique and gives them more personality.
* Easy Trade. Only two types of trades. Either fixed cheap price or a floating high price. You can always be sure that if you buy something cheap you will be able to sell it high somewhere where they sell it high too.
* Universal Currency. All nations operate on a single currency. Gold.
* Simple Wind Catching. As long as sails are adjusted to catch the wind they will. No complications such as having one mast in front of the other affects that in this version.
* Food won't spoil but give more nutrition when cooked.
Warnings
Allowing Steam client to update the game will result in re-writing of the downgrade. It is not recommended to put your older version back into its folder located in SteamApps.

Save files of the current version most likely are incompatible with an older version of the game. If you are unsure if you are okay with losing all of your progress for a sake of rollback it is recommended to backup all of your save files.

(At the moment of writing this guide save files are located at: "[Your System Disc:]\Users\[Your User Name]\AppData\LocalLow\Raw Lion Workshop\Sailwind")
Preparation
You must own the copy of this game on Steam.

Since Old Version will have the same save file folder as the Up-to-Date one a conflict of incompatibility of save files may occur. It is recommended to have only one version of the game installed. Either Old One or Up-to-Date. Otherwise one would have to swap the contents of the save file folder manually each time they decide to play another version of the game or face consequences of possible save file corruption.
Downloading
Using Steam Console download the older version of the game into a steam "content" folder by issuing following command:

download_depot 1764530 1764531 3903734401351816370

It is possible to quickly open up steam console by typing in this adress into a browser and allowing it to follow it into the application: "steam://nav/console".

Make sure that you have connection to the internet and that your Steam client is running while version is being downloaded. It may take minutes to fully download. Check the progress by observing Steam icon on your task bar.
Making It Work
Navigate to the steam folder and open "content" folder. And then to the folder that the older version was downloaded to. (depot_1764531)

Essentially this is the entirety of the game, minus the save files. You can cut or copy these contents into any folder on your computer. Creating a folder for this version in the most logically sound place is recommended. As long as that place is not the original folder in Steam. That would make this version a subject for updates.

Regardless of that. This version of game executable lacks Steam License protection check. It can be launched without Steam launcher.

Game launch file is "Sailwind.exe". One can create a shortcut to this file and launch from anywhere on their machine.

Enjoy your copium-free game!

For pointing out that this version of the game has no Steam License check protection and can be stored and launched outside of its Steam dedicated folder.

Thank you!

@Tenth Doctor; I will be going back to good ole Sailwind version 0.17.1 (depot_1764531) where this game was pure FUN and still had a bit of simulation elements in it. I'll stick to using my old ships such as the Sanbuq (my favorite), the Brig, and 3-masted Junk as that new large ship (4-masted Junk) that comes with the latest release just isn't worth all of the additional baggage such as the new (and tediously annoying) food management system, along with the increasing amount of bugs that come with each new release. Coming up will be a boat damage and maintenance mechanic system added to Sailwind. The good old Sailwind 0.17.1 that we know and love is STABLE with far fewer bugs than the mess that is out there now. Good sailing out there, keep well and stay safe! :)

@Tenth Doctor; As exciting of an addition as this new large ship is, overall the latest release of Sailwind isn't worth the extra baggage and annoyances that come with it. Now just a brief little info on that new ship; IMO its very large and roomy, definitely can be made into a really nice luxurious home on the seas, but other than that it is by no means great in regards to its performance. Speed is about that of the Brig in its stock configuration; definitely slower than the Sandbuq and certainly quite slower than the 3-masted Junk.

@Tenth Doctor; I am glad to be of help to you and also the others following this guide so that Sailwind is more of a game of fun as supposed to a sim. With each major update of Sailwind, this once really fun game is becoming more and more of a hardcore simulator with each version. The latest version, 0.29.x adds a new large ship (4-masted Junk) to the game and also a rather tedious and annoying food management mechanic. While the new large ship is great, other than that I just don't find the game all that fun anymore! It is unfortunate that this new large ship wasn't in the game much SOONER IMO.

"Oh! Sailwind execution file has no Steam license check? That's great news! I'll test it and add it to the guide! Thank you!!!"

@Tenth Doctor; You're very welcome. You may want to give the current release of Sailwind a try as a brand new large ship just got released, a 4-masted Junk. Its a very big and impressive ship, but not as fast as the original 3-masted Junk. But a huge boat with tons of cargo room.

"Discovered method of update prevention didn't seem to work for me. I will be removing it from the guide later. I apologize for the false information."

The BEST method is to have this version of Sailwind (or any other version FTM) in its own separate directory outside of anything Steam and preferably outside of Program Files. I suggest making a GAMES folder on the root drive or on an external drive and run the game from there. Example: C:\GAMES\Sailwind0171 - where the numbers correspond to the game version. Make a shortcut to Sailwind from the custom directory to your desktop and we're good to go! No Steam required whatsoever! And certainly no Steam bloat and overhead running in the background either. Happy Sailing!😎⛵️

@Kondor70

Happy to help. :steamhappy: I'm sorry we have to resort to this instead of developer just allowing this version for Beta Branches.
