Description
James's Korea Uniform Pack
Historical military uniforms for Joseon & the Korean Empire

Overview
James's Korea Uniform Pack ((J)KUP) is a mod that aims to add historically-inspired uniforms to Korea. Watch as the Joseon Army evolves from traditional clothing to a modernized fighting force with a carefully crafted set of uniform assets and customized logic driving an immersive experience throughout the game.

KUP users will find that the soldiers, officers, and commanders of Joseon will now be wearing custom clothing based on historical 19th-century Joseon military attire designs. After researching General Staff or Percussion Caps, the army uniforms will change to use the black-and-red uniforms of the Chingunyeong (친군영), a part of the Joseon Army that historically was at the forefront of military modernization efforts.

Upon proclaiming the Empire of Korea, the uniforms will become modernized, with the army adopting the iconic black-and-red coats and kepis and the navy adopting clothing loosely based on surviving Imperial Korean Navy photographs. After researching Bolt-Action Rifles or Trench Works, the army uniforms for officers will change slightly, exchanging their kepis for peaked caps. The uniforms will change one more time for the army upon researching NCO Training and for the navy with Aircraft Carriers or Battleships to adopt a more modern style inspired by uniforms from the World Wars and Korean War periods, which includes helmets!

Seasonal uniforms are available, primarily for officers, where the uniforms can change color or design based on the current month in the year and technological progress.

I am not a historian or native Korean. I am an American-born Korean-American who has a casual interest in Korean history. I do not have very authoritative sources nor do I have the motivation or means to track such things down. I also have very minimal (if any) 3D modeling experience, so the assets available are limited to what's provided in the base game, whatever I can derive from vanilla assets, or by other community members. The content in this mod is meant to be historically-inspired, but not a 100% historically-accurate depiction of the uniforms in Korea's military history, similar to vanilla Victoria 3 content.

KUP requires the Community Outfit Mod as a dependency! You must install both for KUP to function correctly.

Mod Compatibility
KUP is made to be interoperate seamlessly with Western Clothes: Redux and East Asian Clothes Patch.

-----

KUP defines all its content in its own files, so it should be compatible with most mods.

However, the following things may cause conflicts:
  • Overwriting the vanilla models or textures for Korean male clothing or European male military clothing
  • Providing non-vanilla models or clothing definitions for Korean military pops & characters

Any mod that does any of the above may require a compatibility patch for both to function correctly.

Loading Order
Community Outfit Mod is a required dependency. There are no requirements regarding where KUP and COM need to be placed relative to each other in your playset; both mods just need to be enabled.

The positioning of KUP with respect to other mods should not matter, except in the case of certain compatibility patches.
Follow any instructions provided by compatibility patch mods.

If you are having issues with other, unrelated mods, place KUP lower (towards the bottom) in your playset.

DLC Requirements
This mod does not rely on any DLC features, so you should not need any DLCs.

An update has been pushed!

Brand new models for early-game uniforms, primarily from the Hanyang Time Machine Project, have been imported, and they replace the older content that only had specific color variants of hanbok or reused base game assets with custom textures to represent certain clothes.

Some additional rework is planned, mainly targeting the hats for the imperial uniforms & the late-game clothing. The current update took a few weeks to do since I had to learn a lot of new things to get it done, and the next stuff I have planned may take just as long, so please don't be surprised if it is not ready by 1.9's launch and if it gets delayed further by it as I will probably have to spend time updating & fixing my other mods when 1.9 arrives.

If I recall correctly, East Asian Clothes needs to load before (i.e. be placed above) East Asian Clothes Patch and Western Clothes: Redux

I have a question. So, regardless of the order,

Is it okay to do this mod with
Western Clothes: Redux
East Asian Clothes + East Asian Clothes Patch
James's Pop Clothing Tweaks
Community Outfit Mod
?
Sometimes when you westernize clothes, you get naked.

It took me half a day to look at it, and I don't think it's because of this mode. When I reset the game about 5 times and looked at the DNA code, it was coded so that Yi Bon's DNA would go bald. So my son seems to have Gojong's bald. But.. the problem is that there is unique DNA data for Yi Kwan based on vanilla, but Yi Bon's unique DNA data is not in vanilla or mode. Nevertheless, I don't know why the same DNA data always comes out in every new game. Anyway, that's right.

Hmm, could be a bug. I'll make a note to investigate it.

Could you tell me if either of these are true for your save:
• You are playing with Western Clothes: Redux and you have westernized
• You are NOT playing with Western Clothes: Redux and you have proclaimed the Korean Empire

If I play choseon, yi hwan -> yi myongbok all go bald when they're over 18.. how do I solve this? I want to stop seeing baldness.

The 1907 service dress as depicted in his book Uniforms of Old Korea and this drawing [www.pixiv.net] are what they're primarily based off of!

His name has been listed near the top of the credits as a reference this whole time, in case you didn't notice.

did you base the modernized uniforms on anything in particular? i recommend taking a look at PzKpfwI's art if you haven't already if you ever want to do any updates for this:
