Intro
Even if the cash in your pockets is running low, sturdy grappling device with no added equipment will get you through basic fishing.

However if you're looking to turn it into an even greater instrument able to catch giant prized fish and recover rare items – this short guide will try to provide all the information you need!
Reaching the Fishing Pier
The whole ocean is out there, but if you're only starting out, may I suggest the pier just south of the Panau National Bank? It is one of the highest quality fishing spots, and should have everything you need for this guide.

If you'd like to set waypoint to the pier, press T and type:
/sw pier
Catching Fish
To begin fishing, aim at the water surface and press 2 (rebindable key used to dual-wield weapons in singleplayer).

This will prompt the minigame to appear, in which you'll need to roughly follow the circle with your mouse, and match its size by pressing left/right mouse buttons.

Example of the fishing minigame, where the mouse cursor follows the fish circle and tries to match its size

The result of fishing will be shown in the chat, and all fish and items you catch will be shown in your inventory, openable by pressing key I.

When using a fishing rod, the minigame will only appear once in a while, so in the next parts of the guide we'll be looking at how to sell our catch to purchase the well deserved equipment!
Selling Fish
You can open the zoomed-in map by pressing F1.

All the colored squares that you see on it are villages, military bases, airports and other types of capturable locations. Head towards any of them and press I to open your inventory.

Items that are in demand by the location you're in, are highlighted – select those items and click Sell (or press Backspace) to trade them for spending cash!
Obtaining a Fishing Rod
Once you have enough cash, it might be time to visit the player-owned fishing rods shop, located just corner of the town where the previously mentioned fishing pier is situated.

If you wish to focus on catching fish, consider buying Spinning Rods and Casting Rods.

If you're mainly after rare items, consider Treasure Fishing Rods. Note, that those are quite expensive! Depending on your luck, you might not even get your money back.

The shop restocks new items every 10 minutes, as long as it has empty slots. If it doesn't have the fishing rods that you're looking for – check by later and it'll surely have some!
Using a Fishing Rod
To equip the fishing rod, select it in your inventory and press Use. Next time you attempt to catch fish, all effects of the fishing rod should be applied, indicated by diamond-shape icons on the screen.

Have a nice catch, and see you around :>
