The player can fish by using a fishing rod that can be purchased by trading with Rose Swayne.

To start fishing when playing with a keyboard, the player must stand close to a body of water and press the Space bar key. When a fish bites the character will get an exclamation mark above their head, and the player must press Space bar again. A timed mini-game then begins where the player must use the WASD-keys to follow the path the fish takes.

There are 3 achievements that is connected with fishing.


Fisherman - сatch 10 different fish.



Marine Master - сatch every fish.



Fishing Pillar - complete the fishing pillar.

Fishing will also level up your fishing skill over time. You will receive rewards when sleeping after reaching the next level. Your progress in leveling up the fishing skill can be tracked in your Family tab, by clicking on the relevant member of the family and then onto the middle icon, which leads to the skills tab.

Leveling up in the skill will unlock blueprints, recipes, and items, while reaching level 5 or 10 will unlock two perks for the player to choose between.

Perks cannot be changed once chosen, so it is important to consider carefully before picking which perk - and it's follow up options, if picking at Level 5 - will benefit your current playstyle or generation more.

You can fish in saltwater or freshwater.

There are 2 locations where you can fish in lakes:

The Forest (Immediately North of the Mayor's house)


The Cave within the mines


Pond
There is a pond that is located near the far east corner of the Player's farm.


Swamp
There is a swamp where the witch Astra Vosen resides (far west on the map next to the bridge that leads to Mermaid's Lagoon).

There are 2 locations where you can fish in the river:

The Forest and the Village

Lures are craftable resources that can be purchased or gifted by Rose Swayne, or can be made by crafting at your Crafting Table.

The fishing contest is a contest hosted once a year. It starts at 8 AM and ends at 4 PM. At the fishing contest your goal is to catch as many fish as possible in 8 hours. A little tip if you are trying to win the contest, fish in a river. This gives you an advantage, since you get more fish from rivers, rather than junk.

The fish are divided into groups where the probability of catching them is highest.
