Introduction
Editing the save file is quite powerful, as it allows for the following actions:
  • Loading any scene you want, allowing you to replay fights without playing through the whole game again.
  • Renaming the player character. With this, you can go above the 10-character limit.
  • Changing the text color of the player character. You can change to any color, not just the 12 provided at the start of the game.
As a disclaimer, all information in this guide is based on trial and error. I did not look at the game's code, so I may have missed some details. Also, this guide is for the Kakkoi update, so some of its instructions may not work in other versions.
Finding the Save File
The save file you're looking for should be in a Steam sub-directory containing the rest of the game. On my Windows 10 install, this is its location:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Gensokyo Odyssey\Gensokyo Odyssey_Data\saveData

If you've already beaten the game, you may see two files, saveData_00.save and saveData_01.save. saveData_01.save is for blackjack, and should be left alone.

Back up saveData_00.save before editing it, as the save will become unusable if you do something wrong. Also, only edit the file while the game isn't running.
Changing Player Character Details
Open the save file in any text editor, such as Notepad. It should look something like this:

The player's name is stored in NameSave's value. You can see my player name is My Gay Son. This value can be directly edited to any text string, which allows for ignoring the character limit. Leave the bordering \"s alone, as they are used to distinguish the value.

The player's text color is stored in ColorSave, which has three values: r (red), g (green), and b (blue). In our example, r and b are a bit more than 0.05, and g is around 0.4. All three of these are expressed as a decimal between 0 and 1. So r = 0, g = 1, and b = 0 gives you pure green, and r = 0.5, g = 0, and b = 0.5 gives you a dark purple. Make sure to leave the comma after the number.

Here's an example of something you can do by editing these values:

Moving Between Scenes
This section forward, there will be spoilers. Be warned.

Skipping forward and backward in this game is done by changing the scene name and progress marker key:

Remember to keep the quotes on both sides when editing these values.

Technically you don't have to change the progress marker key, but not doing so results in weird effects like the player's name being replaced with "MC". So you should probably do it.

Here's a full table of scene names, accompanying progress marker keys, and fights in those scenes. If you want to replay a fight, just put in the corresponding scene name and progress marker key.

For clarification: HighCog is Koishi's scene, Laser is before the choice.

I'm not 100% sure that every single scene is here, but I tried to find the best ones for re-doing fights at least. The scenes for Remilia and Yukari 2 are quite long, unfortunately.
The "Secret" Value
Most of the other values in the file seem to be either unused or things we don't really need to modify, such as whether you've solved the Bone Riddle (this gives you the Steam achievement in the middle of the scene) or whether the Top Gear characters show up. However, the "secret" value has some relevance.

This value is relevant to the secret boss. This is how it works:
  • It starts at 0.
  • Upon picking up the book in Rinnosuke's shop, it moves to 2.
  • The Cashino will not let you enter the secret password unless your secret value is 2. However, the password you enter (whether or not it is the secret one) seems not to immediately change the secret value.
  • After the Yukkuri Cave, if your secret value is 3, you can fight the secret boss. I know that if you play straight from Rinnosuke to there, you can access it by following the instructions, but if you close the game after entering the password then there are some problems.
  • If you enter the secret boss's area directly by modifying the scene name, it'll let you in regardless of your secret value.

Some of the images in this guide broke, so I've replaced them. Sorry for any inconvenience this might have caused. If they break again, let me know by posting a comment in this thread so I can fix it.

@azu: as an alternative if you don't want to beat the secret boss (which i don't blame you, took me several hours), you can change the secret value to 10 which will give you the boost from fighting the secret boss against any bosses afterwards without having to go through hell (only has an effect from hisoutensoku onwards from my testing, someone correct me if i'm wrong)

@azu: I'm pretty sure Laser is the last scene in the game, so no, the Yukari fight cannot be skipped. If you're struggling in the Yukari fight, one option is fighting the secret boss, because winning it makes the subsequent fights a little easier. (You can skip right back to Yukari's fight after beating the secret boss.)
