Both debuted on the same year and were trained by the same (Sky)guy, albeit in different eras/time-lines. But only one of them truly stood and stuck around, becoming an iconic and beloved character despite the very shaky start... (and a questionable first costume choice too...)

The other one was greeted warmly (and absurdly, awesomely powerful) at first, but ended up dead on the original game, then brought back as an amnesiac clone with a serious existential crisis for a painfully short, mediocre, cash-grabby sequel. And some years later "Mick Rodent" kicked this poor sap out of the canon unceremoniously: which meant another trip back to the grave, now with very little chances to return..."
