The flag of Spain, known as "La Rojigualda" in Spanish, has a rich history and symbolism.

The current design of the Spanish flag dates back to 1785. It consists of three horizontal stripes: two red ones on the top and bottom, and a thicker yellow one in the middle. The yellow stripe is twice the height of each red stripe. This tricolor arrangement is commonly referred to as a "triband" design.

The colors themselves have historical significance. Red and yellow have been associated with Spain for centuries. The yellow color represents generosity, while red symbolizes the blood shed by those who fought for Spain.

In the center of the yellow stripe, there is the Spanish coat of arms. The coat of arms features several elements:

Pillars of Hercules: These are two pillars with a banner wrapped around them. The banner usually bears the Latin motto "Plus Ultra," which means "Further Beyond." This motto symbolizes Spain's historical exploration and discoveries beyond Europe.

Crown: The crown above the pillars represents the monarchy of Spain.

Other Symbols: The coat of arms may also include other elements such as a shield with horizontal stripes and the royal supporters on each side, which are traditionally two crowned columns representing the Pillars of Hercules.

The flag's design has evolved over time. Various versions were used throughout Spain's history, particularly during periods of political change. The current design, with the coat of arms, was officially adopted in 1981 after the restoration of democracy in Spain.

The Spanish flag is a symbol of national identity and unity. It is flown proudly on official buildings, during national holidays, and at international events to represent the country and its people.
