The failed vessel Hex is a utility and mixup focused Grappler that looks to extend her combos via a variety of unique tools. By utilizing Hex’s powerful grabs and the Tainted Heart your opponents will be forced to think quickly to avoid drowning out of the match.

Hex’s Jab is unique in that it is a bit slower than most, however upon hitting an opponent you can choose how to throw them. If attack is held down then Hex will slam the opponent down, while alternatively if it is released during the grab then Hex will instead toss the opponent up for combos.

A five hit attack, it can be jump canceled if any of the hits have landed, allowing for a great deal of flexibility.

One of Hex’s most important options, when an opponent is grabbed by Up Air they will be dragged down the ground. The move is best used as a finisher given its slow speed, and will often allow you to extend your combos by putting both Hex and the caught opponent back on the ground. If you happen to use the move too far off stage and fall into the blast zone, Hex will instead return to the center of the stage to prevent unfortunate accidents.

A fairly simple move, on hit Hex will throw the grabbed opponent in front of herself, allowing for surprise kills and other mixups.

By using Hex’s NSpecial she becomes cloaked in a blue energy, empowering the next attack you land. Upon hitting an opponent the power will be passed to them, and after a short delay it will tear out their SOUL, spawning the Tainted Heart. Note that if NSpecial is used again while the effect is active it will instead use FSpecial.

A field spawned by Hex’s Neutral Special, whenever a player stands within its range their percent will be capped at 66, allowing for easier combos on those within the space (it will return to normal when they leave the field). In addition, when Hex uses one of her Strongs or Jab-Hold inside the field the move will become empowered, destroying the field. Of course, if you manage to land any grabs, the Tainted Heart will be pulled towards you, allowing for easier follow ups.

With a quick move to either side, Hex releases two globs to get opponents away. Notably, if used while Neutral Special’s effect is active, the power will be released into the globs, making them fly further horizontally as well as allowing them to summon the Tainted Heart (this consumes the effect).

Releasing a blast of energy, Hex checks to see if anyone is within reach. Should a player be unlucky enough to be caught by the wave, Hex will teleport to their location, dashing through them and into the next attack. If the Tainted Heart has been active for a bit (a flash displays on the heart when this ability is ready), Hex will instead check for players within its range, destroying the Tainted Heart in the process. Like with Forward Special, if Neutral Special’s buff is active then the effect will be consumed and empower Hex’s Down Special.

Hex is a secret boss from Vision Crew’s Alternate Chapters, a Deltarune AU by R.V. Pine which is really cool and awesome. Almost all the alternate colors on Hex reference various Deltarune AUs that have been made over the past few years, with added notes visible from the character select screen. I’d also like to thank Krispy, Jetie, and Opengunner for helping me with testing because this character went through a lot of revisions to feel less awful!
