Understanding Rank, Levelling & Resets
As an idle RPG(ish) game, Your Chronicle relies on an increasing decline in 'babysitting' after you start to find your flow. Unfortunately it can be rather tricky to understand the mechanics behind gaining strength and growing in rank.

  • What is a rank in Your Chronicle?
  • How do I rank up?
  • What does the Dark Ritual actually do?
  • What is talent, and should I reset my rank?

What is a (or my) rank in Your Chronice?

Rank describes your experience, and this rank goes up through XP earned in game.

Note the "XP" iteration under some actions

How do I rank up?

XP can be gained from actions and defeating enemies. You can view the gained XP on the right-hand notes of any dungeon during combat. Defeating enemies is the fastest, constant path to XP gain

Rank increases as you grow, and different interactions in-game, new scenarios and worlds become available with higher ranks.

You can view your rank at any time by tapping on "Ritual"

What does the Dark Ritual actually do?

The Dark Ritual resets your rank to zero, and resets your Daily Routine gains for most categories except Energy. This may sound bad, but it isn't. It took me a long time to realise it was necessary to progress in the game.

I recommend resetting at rank 3, 5, 10, 15, and 20 if your Talent is higher than last time.

Use the Sacred Ritual Daily Routine called Worship to increase your XP gains here! Always have this running by a few clicks.

What is Talent? Should I reset my rank

Talent (you can see mine in the screenshot above showing the Dark Ritual) increases your XP earnings and speeds up the ranking process tremendously.

1. Use Dark Ritual **ONLY** if the Next Talent number is larger than the Current Talent number. This doesn't stack, it replaces.
2. Use Dark Ritual every few new ranks from your previous highest.
3. Don't be afraid of Dark Ritual or rank resets.

With higher talent you will flllyyyy through your old ranks. Try it out!

YES! You should reset.

Understanding Party & Summons
It took me awhile to realise I was fighting alone! I thought I'd summoned creatures and our stats were conglomerated. You must add your summons to your party. Let's see how!

  • How to summon a new party creature
  • How to add a new party creature to your party
  • How to level up your party creatures

Short, sweet and to the point. This will be a basic introduction to get your party-balls rolling.

How to summon a new party creature

Looking at this screenshot of the Slime you'll see "Slime Research 1:1 --> 1:9...30%"
This 30% indicates the base drop chance of Slime Research upon defeating a Slime.

Accumulating enough research for any creature in your Bestiary means you can now summon one! The summon is permanent, and the creature is forever available to you.

POTENTIAL CONFUSION: "Summon" on the party tab doesn't mean summon. It means level-up for that creature. When you hit Summon on any creature (or on You), you are powering up that being.

How to add a new party creature and level up your party creatures

*Newly available creatures will pop up on this tab! Press "Summon" and start building them up. You need at least 1 research to level them up generally. You increase their Physical, Magical and Special powers with seeds.

Status Effects aren't working
Let's face it, Area of Effect (AoE) just doesn't work, right?

It does, but understanding how to activate it may be something players aren't aware they need to do. In this quick tip, I'll show you how to activate your magical and physical abilities so you're not throwing in the towel.

Understand formations

Formations don't show up in the beginning of the game, but are unlocked after you've ranked up a bit. You'll see this little drop-down menu here, but the game doesn't give a good indicator that it exists. Keep an eye out!

Magical, Physical and Friendly formations have inherent attributes:

Physical Formation boosts: Physical attack and defence by 20%

Magical Formation boosts: Magical attack and defence by 20%

Friendly Formation boosts: Research chance drop rates

These formations last for 30 seconds on their own, and have a 3 minute cooldown for each. You can use one formation, then another, and then another, waiting 1.5 minutes for the first to cooldown again.

Why aren't all these abilities working!?

It's a fair question! But most of these abilities only trigger while your party is in a Physical, Magical or Friendly formation. Some of these abilities remain up at all times, but far from all.

This means you'll need to be more engaged in fights where you're progressing the game (and not farming). You can go to a formation and click the ✅ to have it loop (I do this with Friendly Formation).

Tap on the "Additional Effects" button in the upper-right of your party skill menu. Here you will probably now see the Magical Formation (et cetera) denotations for each skill. Anything marked with Other is likely to be active at all times.

When engaged in combat, your active effects will appear by your name (same for enemies).
Oops! You Might Have Missed These...
There's a lot left unsaid in Your Chronicle when you move through the game, but don't let it stop you!

The following items, stats and features went over my head for awhile–don't let it happen to ya:

Routines

Routines expand on your abilities, making it easier to regenerate things like magic, stamina and destiny without having to be involved in Loop or Area actions. Cool stuff!

All routine gains drop to zero after a Dark Ritual except for Energy.

I recommend always having "Worship" running with a few Habit clicks for experience.

What is Habit?

Every time you gain a rank, you gain a Habit point.

**Never** have unused Habit points laying around. Visit the Daily Routines tab and level up your stuff! Focusing on Energy is always smart. Stamina increases are very easy to achieve.

Skills

A learned skill will show under the Party tab when you select Skill at the top. You can apply the same skill to multiple party members at once.

If a party member cannot use that skill (Like an HM or TM in Pokemon) it simply won't be available.

To apply a skill to a party member, tap on Party -> Main -> Skill next to member name.

Shop

The shop isn't just for paying real money for in-game currency. Always check in the Shop to use items discovered in-game. You'll get rubies for free as you play, but I recommend purchasing a small pack to say 'Thank you!' to the hardworking dev team and community managers.

Visit the Help Guide and look for the secret Reward code ;)

It's often worth using Dark Ritual even if it lowers your talent, as this gives your more Inspiration (and progress toward the Dark Ritual achievements, but that's a minor point; the Inspiration is the most important).

Using Dark Ritual is only helpful if the Next Talent will be higher than Current Talent, as listed under the Ritual tab. It's possible to Dark Ritual and LOWER your talent, which is bad.

A little nitpicky, but 30% on the monster page in bestiary gives you current chance of getting research, not base one. Useful when you want to check when you should stop increasing your research drop chance.
But all in all, nice guide and should be helpful for new players, thanks

Talent and Rank usually don't matter much unless you're pushing for a new unlock and need a specific rank. Otherwise it's better to Dark Ritual as often as you can (preferable every 1 hour if you can). Why? Well, even time you rank up you gain Inspiration which you can spend for permanent bonuses which would persist after any sort of reset. That's one of the big ways to get stronger. After buying all non-infite upgrades (they're strictly better than infinite ones) and getting a lot of infinite ones you can for example, have enough Habit Efficiency to 1cap all non-scaling routines right at the start of the run with 0 talent, or have enough stats to get rank 39 and finish kill the final boss without even using Dark Ritual.

Very good guide, I was wondering about the "Worship" routine as it seems to add to "Total exp" which does not seem to actually reach the amount of exp needed to rank up, or is it aimed to improve something else?
