Equivalent to a weakened version of the wormhole station, one capital gate links to other colonial gates, and the capital gate can lead to other trade gates, while the other gates can only go to the capital Gate.
Do not build a trade gate in a star system that has a hyperspace channel connection to the capital, this will lead to wayfinding errors.
