In case you find yourself opening the game and not having your save file, (first of all sorry to hear that), you can try to restore a backup, the game creates a backup every time you ascend, so you can go back to the last time you ascended. I hope this helps

• Open this folder \AppData\Local\Idling_Gears\{your steam id}
  
• You should see some files named "backup_year_month_day_hour_minute_second.sav"
  
• Open the game, select the backup you want (probably the most recent one) without closing the game, duplicate the backup, name it "save.sav"
  
• Restart your game, you should be right before your last ascension.
