DSF3 Duchessa

Description
Drone Support Frigate, with docking connectors and control stations to operate 8 drones (mod-free versions also available). Final upgrade of the Contessa.
For variant with drone construction bays, see Duchessa-B

  • 1,612,598 kg
  • Large reactor
  • Battery backup with sufficient capacity to maneuver at full thrust for 30 minutes
  • Medical room
  • 4 refineries
  • 6 arc furnaces
  • 8 assemblers
  • 4 large cargo containers
  • 2 small cargo containers: one for crew and one for captain
  • Captain's private cabin
  • Docking indicators show which connectors are available
  • All objects named for easy searching
  • Fitted with remote control and four cameras

Update 2014-10-29
  • Added 2 more arc furnaces and 4 assemblers
  • Added walkway from cabin to forward hold and adjusted lighting.
  • Hangar ceiling modified to allow drones to dock with landing gear - more secure during carrier movement.
  • Grinder and welder ships may dock facing in or out of the hangar, miners must face outwards due to drill heads colliding with walkway.

Update 2014-11-22
  • Reverted to control stations, as remote control of connected ships is possible again.
  • Added cabin access door with personnel landing platform lined up with edge of gravity field - walk straight off and drift.

Update 2014-11-26
  • Removed drones from blueprint due to ownership issues/headaches.

Update 2014-12-12
  • Shifted left and right cameras down and forward so they're less prominent (and also less likely to be scraped off).

No mods used except skybox for screenshots.
While not required, I strongly recommend Automated Inventory Sorting. I use these settings:

hello i wanted to ask if i can publish a small variant of your ship. I found your ship for many years in an encounter 2015 or 2016 (since you had to look for ships visually)

Beautiful ship. Simple, elegant, believable and very useful. One of my favorites.

It uses HSV still and it has hex color codes, i'll figure it out, thank you :)

Does Space Engineers use RGB now or is it still HSV? I haven't played in years

I found an old text file with a custom palette in it, this is probably what I used:

Ive commandeered two of ur ship in my survival game, and im trying to find the color of yellow you used in hex so i can retrofit the ships with a merge block, could you possibly give me the hex code it used?

Oop, sorry; lightly modded but nothing critical will break without them. It's also a survival ship, so if there are some scrapes and dings... Well, that's why.

Outlander vs Duchessa trades: number of supported drones, some processing, and some production ability for better maneuvering (slightly lower forward acceleration though), more cargo space, weapons, oxygen system, and a jump drive.
Anyway, I finally actually looked at who the creator was... And it was the one who made the Homeworld skyboxes I enjoyed for the first time when beginning the playthrough that resulted in the Outlander. How about that??
Here, I don't usually upload stuff to the workshop, but in case you're interested I uploaded it just for you : )

Both have similar aspects to outlines, almost identical dimensions, off-center primary control stations, a single antenna (forward and below, no less), primary cargo access from the bottom, primary entrance at the rear-right, very similar positionings on the thruster groups, both have orange and green exterior lights, and even feature dark blue and grey in their color schemes (Duchessa adds its primary yellow, Outlander adds primary olive)! Both are drone carriers, rather than carrying mannable(?) craft...
I feel like overall, the Duchessa has a very clear purpose in the design, and is very clean about it. I like that a lot. The Outlander is more flexible, and more organic due to its survival-oriented creation, which is also cool.
