Stone To StarFire

Description
Description

Technology is not linear. Some Species would no doubt, have no concept of war,. Perhaps a specific resource is not available on their home planet. Perhaps they are a harmionous organism that has had no need to compete. What if they have traits that causes them to overlook the need to build weapons, so why do they start the game on the same footing.

This Mod Seeks to explore that idea.

Starting from stone age armies, you must learn increasingly sophisticated weaponry to stand a chance against a potentially hostile universe.

Currently updated for 3.13.0 build

Mod Content

12 New temporary army types
8 Technologies
Custom Icons for all mod army types

Stone age starting tech will reduce army health, damage and morale by -90%. As you research the techs of each age, you will increasingly improve upon this penalty, and gain/lose army types per the age researched.

Compatability

tech_assault_armies has been modified by this mod so you dont start the game with space age assault armies. This tech still exists in the game, just comes after the techs in this mod so shouldnt cause any real issues

If they got to the point of traveling the stars, they would have had experience with accidents. Explosions from improper experimentation, destruction from crashes, and so on. 'Improvised' weaponry would be a more realistic way, in my opinion, than giving essentially swords on spaceships. To this end, suicide ships, whether laden with something that can be explosive or not, would be the most likely thing an empire in this situation would do.

I do like the concept of an empire developing economically without ever considering the concept of warfare and battle. Like if they grew up on a planet that achieved world peace much earlier on.

But I do agree with others, this should be split down different optional paths, like how Warp Drives were in the past. Where you can choose to start with the FTL buildings, FTL ship parts, or FTL armies.

I feel like this mod can be an origin, instead of replacing starting tech by default.

I also feel like it could, potentially, become a "Primitive Start" sort of mod. There were other mods, though I think they do not work in the current game version anymore.

Will this affect the other AI empires including the preset empires?

@Deo - Good Shout, had forgotten about ship components, something to look into.

@TheAngryCheese - You're probably right and whilst this mod goes to the extreme, its equally possible species stop at certain levels of weaponry. You only need a tiny rock and enough momentum in space to cause real damage. Perhaps some species make it to space but are stuck in Pike and shot tactics.

@XyllisaMeemParadoxStation - It would be interesting to see how i can make such a format interesting enough to play. Something to work on

Though I don't intend to use this mod on its own (I don't necessarily understand how a space age civilization would still be at the point of using stone age tools, esp. if their spaceships have weapons), I'll still keep an eye on the development of this and any other future mods from you in regards to starting at a more primitive state.

Idk man, I bet every intelligent species would have some concept of war; resources are finite and unfairly distributed, and the game of life absolutely encourages competing for those resources. Even a hive mind organism would no doubt have competed with other hive minds of the same species on their homeworld before eventually uniting and reaching for the stars.

I was thinking of a similar idea for the overall tech tree for going from stone to space age, but wasn't sure how to start that. This seems like a great first step towards that.
