I felt that the map size large might be a bit too large after playing the game for a long time. Consider Medium depending on your preference.

A map size this large is a good balance because it makes cavalry more meaningful. If there are many "independent cities", the initial location has a big influence of luck, so setting it to the lowest level will stabilize the game.
