Fullscreen Resolution Fix | Lossless Scaling 60FPS
By Nospine
Using ALT+ENTER to enter fullscreen forces the game to run at 1284x701. This simple guide will show you how to run the game in fullscreen mode at your desired resolution. As an optional step, this will also go over using Lossless Scaling to generate more frames for a smoother experience.

Low Resolution Fix
1. After booting the game for the first time, locate and open savecfg.txt found in:
Steam/steamapps/common/Castlevania Dominus Collection/winbackup

Type in your desired resolution in the last two lines:
LAST_CLIENT_SIZE_X = [Type here]
LAST_CLIENT_SIZE_Y = *[Type here]

As an example, this is what mine looks like:

*Y value gets slightly altered after booting the game. For reference, my original Y Value was 2160.

2. Now, locate the game executable:
Steam/steamapps/common/Castlevania Dominus Collection
game.exe -> Properties -> Compatibility -> Change high DPI settings -> High DPI scaling override

Under High DPI scaling override, tick Override high DPI scaling behavior and set it to Application

3. Boot up the game and use ALT+ENTER to enter fullscreen. The game should now be in your desired resolution without switching back to 1284x701.

[OPTIONAL] Lossless Scaling
Shoutouts to InterstellarKev for the suggestion

As an optional final step, you can purchase Lossless Scaling and use it to generate additional frames for a smoother gameplay experience. I'm still experimenting with this software but I will post the settings that have worked for me so far.

In order to use Lossless Scaling:
1. Launch Lossless Scaling on Steam
2. Set Scaling Mode to Auto
3. Set Scaling Type to LS1
4. Set Frame Generation to LSFG 2.3 and Mode to x2 (Higher values cause artifacting and jittering)
5. Set Rendering to Vsync
6. Keep Lossless Scaling open and launch Castlevania Dominus Collection. DO NOT ALT+ENTER to go fullscreen, instead, use Lossless Scaling's shortcut which is CTRL+ALT+S by default. The game will go fullscreen and will now generate more frames. Addtionally, to disable the fps counter locate Draw FPS under Rendering and disable it.

60fps - The Konami Way

According to Konami, another way to get a higher framerate is to lower your monitor to 60hz.
THANKS KONAMI.

I wouldn't blame Konami for this, but rather M2, whose PC dev story isn't good at all (Check their Taito ports as an example)

The fact we can't map L3/R3 AT ALL and they are very stubborn on this should say a lot...

But still! Thanks for this sincerely

I also think we could use something like SpecialK instead of Lossless scaling for stuff to move better, maybe even reduce input lag

Also a note for anyone still seeing a white line when going fullscreen with alt+enter, for me it goes away if I press alt+enter three time (slight delay between presses). No clue why this fixes it.

I wouldn't blame konami on this one. I love m2, but they need some work on these pc versions. At least I get to take them on the steam deck or play them on my 4k tv so no point in crying over spilled milk on my end.

Eww, no way, not gonna lower my native 165 Hz display to 60 Hz lol, thanks for the guide however ^^

You can combine this with Borderless Gaming to make the game boot in borderless windowed mode, no more alt+enter shenanigans. :sans:

Thank you. Will revise the guide

''1. Before booting the game, locate and open savecfg.txt''

That is wrong, you have to boot the game once for the winbackup folder to be created.

Just pointing it out since i was confused for a bit, thank you for the guide!

Curious, is there any similar fix for the Advance Collection? I noticed the same config file doesn't seem to exist for it, but I'd also be kind of surprised if the ports worked entirely differently. Wondering if there's some way to unpack it and make some kind of change to force 4k. Doesn't change the in-game appearance much but I'd love for the overall presentation to be as crisp as it can.

@InterstellarKev
If the game drops in FPS then the entire game plays smoother as it doesn't skip frames.

My fix was making sure G-SYNC was enabled.

You're right. It's also giving me 60fps with Nvidia Image Scaling and frame gen disabled. However, frame gen does make the animations smoother so it may be worth it to keep it on. Thanks for the update!
