1. Your first patrol and your squad car
Your First Patrol
After you have created your character you will be dropped off outside your house, go inside and take it all in! You will be greeted by a relatively empty room, however there is a laptop waiting for you to interact with it - go towards it and press 'E' to bring up the menu - here you can check your emails, buy new items for your house, or retire (surely you don't want to do this just yet!)

I'd recommend buying the cheapest sofa and TV you can, as this will help with stress off duty.

When you are ready to begin your shift, go into your bedroom and you will find a wardrobe.
If you interact with it you will see a number of clothing options, at the bottom will be an option to go on duty. Click this and you can choose your on duty outfit.

Congratulations! You can now start your first patrol in Mountain Valley.

Your Squad Car

As an MVPD officer you are issued a police cruiser which can only be used on-duty. When you first receive it you will notice it is in standard configuration, complete with a black and white paint scheme and vector style lightbar.

You can customise your squad car at the back of the Auto Shop, simply park outside and interact with the doors to enter the customisation menu. It looks better already!

You can also swap out your squad car for an interceptor, 4X4 or unmarked cruiser (shown below)

2. Tasks during your shift
Each day you start your shift you are given a task to perform - this could include setting up vehicle checkpoints, speed radars or searching the area for illegally parked cars. Lets go over some of the tasks now:

1. Road Checks
Road checks are relatively simple tasks that require you to set up a roadblock to check vehicles or breathalyse drivers. There is no correct way of setting up a roadblock, but the easiest is either parking your vehicle across a lane or blocking it off with traffic cones.

Now that we have set up our roadblock, approach the vehicle you wish to check and press 'C' - your character will ask that the driver stop their vehicle (note: if you hear the engine shut off completely they are going to make a run for it, so be ready!) - you may now press 'E' to bring up the interaction menu. If you're asked to check for vehicle problems (or anything along those lines) click 'check plates and licences'.

2. Speed Enforcement
Sometimes you will be tasked with setting up a speed radar to capture the details of speeding cars. This is probably the easiest of all the tasks as it requires little effort from the player. First, stop your vehicle by the side of the road and interact with it by pressing 'E' - select the traffic radar and place it on the ground by clicking the first mouse button.

Now simply get back in the vehicle and wait for speeders to drive by you (you can also drive off and do other things, it will still detect them and count towards your score). Eventually, you'll receive word that the ticket penalty was applied correctly, simply keep it up until the mission ends.

3. Parking Enforcement
Another type of task is to investigate the area for illegally parked vehicles. When you have found one, simply pull up behind it, ticket it and tow.
Please note, only vehicles in marked 'no parking' zones apply. Anywhere else, no matter how silly or inconvenient will only give you a penalty for incorrect ticketing.
3. Dispatch missions (coming soon)
Coming Soon!

This page is still in devolpment as I have yet to try most of the dispatch missions

Look back here soon for updates or leave a comment/send a friend request if you'd like to contribute to this page!
4. Recovering from your shift (off-duty time)
Everyone needs some time to unwind after a shift, so in your off duty time you can do a number of activities to help with stress such as watching tv, taking a nap, having a shower, and sleeping. For those who have worked hard enough to attain the American dream, you can drive your car off duty to relieve your stress level.

You can also spend time with family and friends by bringing up your phone by pressing 3 (only while off duty) and navigating to 'contacts'. From there you can choose who you spend time with.
5. The law in Mountain Valley
Just because you're the only law enforcer in Mountain Valley doesn't mean you can do whatever you want - this isn't Liberty City! At all times you need to uphold the law. Unfortunately there isn't room for much discretion, so check the quick guide below to see the appropriate response to a situation.

1. Aiming your weapon
Your weapon is to be holstered at all times unless you have reason to believe your life is in danger. Only ever aim your weapon at visibly armed suspects or you will lose points.

2. Use of force
At all times you must respond with appropriate force.
  • Visible weapon - Lethal force. (If you are feeling brave you can go for the tazer)
  • Non-compliance - Tazer
  • Compliant & of no threat - None

3. Issuing tickets
Tickets may be issued to anyone, at any time - however if there is no valid reason you will incur a loss of points.

4. Warrants
A warrant is needed whenever you seek to enter a house by force (e.g. kicking down the door).
In most cases you can gain entry to houses by knocking, however, if you believe a criminal is inside go back to the police station and get a warrant. You now have 10 minutes to use this warrant, it may be used only once and if the time runs out you need to go back and get an extension.

5. Quick reference guide
  • Illegal parking - Ticket & tow
  • Speeding - Ticket
  • Problem with vehicle - Ticket
  • Expired licence - Ticket & tow
  • DUI/DWI - Arrest & tow
  • Suspect flees - Arrest (& tow if applicable)
  • In posession of stolen items, weapons or drugs - Arrest
  • Driving erratically - Traffic stop, breathalyse & check license

6. Notes and Tips
  • Vehicles are only considered illegally parked if they are in a no parking zone (shown by signs). Regardless of where else they are parked - in the middle of a street, up in the sky etc. unless they are in a no parking zone you will lose points for an incorrect ticket. Just tow those vehicles instead.

  • If you judge someone as speeding just by looking, pull them over and check the licence first - it will tell you in the dialogue box and give you points for discovering that the vehicle was speeding. If you just ticket without investigating you'll lose points for an incorrect ticket.

  • You cannot ticket or arrest for dangerous driving (hitting other cars, running over NPCs etc.) as the game at this time does not recognise it as an offence. Simply initiate a traffic stop, breathalyse them and check the licence - usually you can get them on something. If not, you can simply ask them to step out and tow the vehicle. This gives you points and gets them off the road.

  • While driving with an expired licence is usually an arrestable offence, in the game it is not. Instead you should ticket & tow the vehicle. If you arrest them you'll lose points.

  • In a real life dangerous scenario, all parties should be considered equally until you can sort out who is innocent and who is guilty. Unfortunately in the game at this time there is a set 'innocent' and 'guilty' status. Therefore when responding to a robbery, drug deal etc. only point your weapon at anyone that pulls one on you - otherwise you will be aiming at an innocent and you'll lose points.

  • Whenever you pull over a vehicle you should always check the licence and breathalyse the driver. You should also frisk people before arresting them. This not only gives more immersive roleplay, but can give you extra points as well. Sometimes it can be what gets you that promotion sooner rather than later!
7. Final remarks
This is my first ever steam guide, so I'd like to thank you for taking your time to read it.

I'd also like to thank the devs for making this game, I've been following their progess since it was first announced and it's absolutely great to see it come along!

If you have any comments or thoughts please don't hesitate to leave them, I'd love to know what you guys think. I hope you have lots of fun playing the game, and if multiplayer is ever introduced I'd love to patrol with you!

Take care,

TheBassman77

Great guide. The developers should spend a little more time improving the vehicle dynamics. And add some call outs. I hope they're still working on this.

there are speeding cars you just dont look at all. if there is a speeding car right behind a normal car you would definetly notice.
