Intro
Hello! Welcome to my JBMod playermodel guide!
My name is Stressed, and in this guide we will explore various topics relating to the usage of playermodels in JBMod, from the basics all the way to the more advanced methods.

In JBMod, playermodels are a tool for self expression, although to most people it seems that what playermodels can be or do is rather limited. However, this couldn't be further from the truth.
In reality, there are very few limits as to what your playermodel can be in JBMod, and what you can do to modify them in-game.

THINGS OF NOTE:
  • JBMod doesn't have a list of valid playermodels when selecting your model, meaning missing models, NPC models, prop models and even the models containing the player animations can ALL be selected as your playermodel.
  • A lot of the older playermodels on the JBMod workshop DO NOT have animations!
(side note: Generally, workshop mods from before 2023 were not updated to work with newer versions of the game, and break various aspects of JBMod)
  • If the server you are playing on doesn't have your playermodel installed, your animations will break and your hitbox will be enlarged (to the size of ERROR.mdl).
(side-note: If your playermodel is a model replacement and not an entirely new model, its animations will still work on any server)
  • If your playermodel isn't a replacement and someone doesn't have your model installed, you will apper as an ERROR model to them.
  • You can only change your playermodel about every 5 seconds. This time does NOT pass while the game is paused in singleplayer!
  • After selecting a playermodel, a message displaying your playermodel's file name is shown. Attempting to change again it within the next 5 seconds will print "Please wait x more seconds before trying to switch." into your chat.

Basic Playermodel Usage
The simplest way of selecting a JBMod playermodel is inside the in-game options menu, although it is not the only one. To change your playermodel in the options menu, simply follow these steps.

1. Click the options button on the main menu or while the game is paused.

2. Select the multiplayer section within the options menu.

Boom! There it is, the multiplayer options page. This is where you can select your playermodel with the drop-down list.
3. Choose your playermodel and click apply.

That's about all the basic stuff you need to know in order to use most playermodels in JBMod. All of the default JBMod playermodels are available from this list, and all of them have animations too. However, things can get a bit more complicated when you factor in the JBMod workshop...
Intermediate Playermodel Usage
In this chapter we will be covering workshop content, accessing the developer console, and usage of the cl_playermodel command.

While some playermodels on the workshop are selectable within the options menu, you may have noticed that this isn't always the case. This means that you will have to change your playermodel manually with the console, but this can be difficult for inexperienced players.

[do console guide here, with pictures]
To change your model with the console, you will be using this command
cl_playermodel "modelname"
When using the command, replace "modelname" with the relative file path of the model. You can find the file path through various means, but here are the 2 easiest methods.

[1] Most workshop addons have a command in their descriptions that you can paste into the console to select the model.
Example:

[2] If they don't have the command itself, workshop addons will usually have the file path for the model instead, which you can use in the cl_playermodel command.
Example:

If the workshop playermodel you downloaded doesn't have this, you're gonna need to look through your PC's files, so you can find the model's file path for use in the console.

Bodygroups are essentially sub-models that you can toggle on and off. You know the Engineer in TF2? The gunslinger uses a bodygroup to hide the Engineer's normal hand.
That same technique is also frequently used for some playermodels for customizability, such as toggling accessories or clothing styles.
