Stutter fix
WHAT IS THIS?
This is a fix for the horrible scrolling stuttery of 9 Years of Shadows. The result will be a smooth scrolling, finally, with just a few minor random hitches remaining. Unfortunately, due to bad choices of the Unity programmer(s) of this game this is the best we can get. Almost perfect, but still day and night compared to the original ugly scrolling.

HOW TO
Use a hex-editor (e.g. free HxD or online https://hexed.it ) and edit "9 Years of Shadows\9 Years of Shadows_Data\globalgamemanagers" like this: find hex value "0AD7 A33C ABAA AA3E" and replace it with "8A88 883C 8A88 883C" (tested with GOG ver 1.00.98).
This will change camera update frame-time in sync to 60fps, so you'll be finally able to select from Graphics Options 60-120+ FPS cap, and have a smooth scrolling in game.

In-Game settings: FULLSCREEN, 60-120 (or multiple of 60) refresh.
Steam launch parameters: -force-d3d12 [this can help a bit more with smoothness]

OPTIONAL:
Not required but recommended, a NVidia Profile Inspector custom profile for this game (Create new profile button: "9 Years of Shadows", Add application to current profile button: "9 years of shadows.exe"):

2 - Sync and Refresh
Maximum Pre-Rendered Frames = Use the 3D application setting
Prefered Refreshrate = Use the 3D application setting
Vertical Sync = Force On
Vertical Sync - Smooth AFR Behavior = On

Enjoy smooth gaming again!

Thanks a lot for this. Never mind that it looks better, it feels a lot more responsive and more enjoyable to play.

📢 NEWS
Changed Steam launch parameter in the guide: since the game runs in fullscreen borderless, d3d12 is a better option for many technical reasons...

No, setting 100Hz won't fix it for good. This is much better and is a real fix syncing camera and framerate at the same speed. Remember to remove 100fps cap from NVidia settings if you apply this fix.

That's good to hear!

This worked great. I have the game on GOG and the camera stutter was annoying. Now it's smooth. Thanks for the fix!

I'd rate this guide but apparently you need to own the game in order to rate a guide on steam lol.

I will say that setting my refresh rate to 100Hz fixed the issue for me completely (my monitor supports 60, 100 and 120), but if this guide works just as well, I won't have to change my refresh rate every time I want to play this game.

Thank you so much, I've applied the change and will try it out when I get home tonight!

.... For Hexed.it put the search string on the right "0AD7 A33C ABAA AA3E", and select as search options: Hexadecimal value, Little endian.
