The Hummel Gunship differs from the Hornet in that, while the Hornet is a mixture of a troop transport and gunship, the Hummel is dedicated to its weaponry. It offers a wider range of fire coverage, with the ability to hit anything with minimal blind spots. The Hummel's guns can be automated, or there are also enough crew seats to man all three turrets.

Although it does not possess heavy armor, the Hummel is still designed to defend itself with its speed and agility, where its accceleration can easily compete with many fighters and interceptors. The cockpit is also somewhat well protected, with the pilot seats being sunk far behind the windows to help protect them during a frontal assault.
