Introduction
Greetings, Viceroys!
Every Update that accompanied a new DLC introduced a vast range of new content, balance changes, and improvements.

Such a high number of changes may require re-learning the recipes, changing strategies, or simply getting used to the new balance. Due to this, we know that some of you may be desperate to play the version you learned and enjoyed for so long.

We always recommend playing on the latest public version as we continuously ensure it's in the best technical state. However, if you prefer, please follow this official guide and learn how you can download and play the Legacy Versions using Steam’s Betas branching functionality.
⚠️ IMPORTANT - Please read before proceeding
There are a couple of important things to keep in mind before changing versions:
  • Loading a Legacy Branch from a different version will invalidate your ongoing settlement save and in some cases may also invalidate your Cycle save.
    • Please make sure to backup your save files before changing versions. Save files are located here:
      %userprofile%\appdata\locallow\Eremite Games
  • Legacy Branch uses the same save files as the Main Branch.
  • We won’t be updating or patching the Legacy Branch.
  • The DLC only works with a specific version of the game (and up). Please refer to the DLC Compatibility section for more information.
  • We’re unable to provide support for the issues with the game or the save files that occurred on the Legacy Branch.
How to switch to Legacy Branch
Please make sure to backup your save files before changing versions. Save files are located here:
%userprofile%\appdata\locallow\Eremite Games

Follow the steps below to access the Legacy Versions on Steam:
  1. Open Steam
  2. Right-click on Against the Storm in your library
  3. Select Properties
  4. Go to the BETAS tab
  5. Enter the access code in the “Private Betas” section.

  6. Click on “Check code”
  7. Choose the appropriate version from the drop-down list:
    • “legacy_branch_1.3” for Legacy Version 1.3
    • “legacy_branch_1.7” for Legacy Version 1.7
  8. Wait for the game to update the files
Legacy Branch 1.3 access code is: LegacyBranchPreFrogs
Legacy branch 1.7 access code is: LegacyBranch17
How to return to the Main Branch
Please make sure to backup your save files before changing versions. Save files are located here:
%userprofile%\appdata\locallow\Eremite Games

Follow the steps below to return to the Main Branch on Steam:
  1. Open Steam
  2. Right-click on Against the Storm in your library
  3. Select Properties
  4. Go to the BETAS tab
  5. Choose “None” from the drop-down list
  6. Wait for the game to update the files
Settlement Saves and Cycle Saves
Loading a Legacy Branch from a different version will invalidate a settlement save and may also invalidate your Cycle save.

If you played with the DLC enabled, then disabled the DLC on Steam, and changed the branch to Legacy Branch, the game will invalidate your Cycle progress along with the ongoing settlement. Your Queen’s Hand Trial progress may be invalidated as well.

Returning to the Main Branch will also invalidate your ongoing settlement.
DLC Compatibility
Keepers of the Stone DLC is only compatible with game version 1.4 and up. The contents of the DLC won't be available on the Legacy Branch 1.3.

Nightwatchers DLC is only compatible with game version 1.8 and up. The contents of the DLC won't be available on the Legacy Branch 1.3 and Legacy Branch 1.7.
