Description

The QBZ-03 (轻武器—步枪—自动-03, qīngwuqi bùqiāng zìdòng-03, Light weapon, rifle, automatic, 2003), also known as Type 03, is a Chinese assault rifle made to complement the QBZ-95 because of the unfamiliarity of soldiers with the QBZ-95's layout; soldiers were more used to having a magazine in front of the pistol grip. QBZ-03 uses a conventional layout similar to the older Type 56 and Type 81 assault rifles. It has a side-folding polymer skeletonized stock. The flash hider houses a bayonet attachment lug and the pistol grip houses a cleaning kit. Improved variants of the QBZ-03 feature different handguards.
