DeI - Realistic Combat Overhaul
Ave, commanders and tacticians! Are you ready to experience the full brutality of ancient warfare? Whether you're unleashing a hail of arrows, leading thunderous cavalry charges, or breaking through enemy lines with disciplined infantry, this submod brings a complete overhaul to how battles behave in Divide et Impera. With completely overhauled mechanics for melee weapons and projectiles, revamped combat dynamics, and a rework of how armor, weapons, movement, and unit mass interact, every clash on the battlefield is now a lethal, visceral experience where tactics and timing reign supreme.

Realistic Combat Overhaul offers an authentic, carefully crafted overhaul of nearly every aspect of Divide Et Impera's battles. Nearly every battle mechanic has been re-evaluated, including charge, speed, acceleration, mass values, projectiles, melee weapons, hand-to-hand combat, armor, shields, and more! Meticulous historical and contemporary research, attention to detail, and calculations have gone into the development of this submod while seeking to maintain an enjoyable battle experience and the core of Divide Et Impera's design philosophies.

Special thanks to KAM 2150 and Summary for providing extra information, historical sources, helpful consulting, and playtesting! It’s much appreciated!

Features:
🆚 Overhauled Battle Mechanics: Witness an ever-changing battlefield! Combat mechanics have been revamped to better reflect historical warfare. Battle lines will shift and morph with every engagement, with lines pushing each other back and forth. Clever tactics will win the day. Use shock troops to rapidly breach a vital position, deploy heavy infantry to hold steadfast against even the mightiest of charges, maneuver cavalry to ruthlessly run down routing troops, let loose barrages of javelins to break formations, and more!

⚔️ Arms and Armor Redefined: Prepare your panoply! Weapons and armor have been fully overhauled to better reflect their lethality and protection. All weapons are capable of instantly killing an opponent, and armor is vital to protect your troops! A single, well-placed strike can fell any man. Armor-Piercing damage is reserved for slings, shock weaponry, and cavalry charges. From the gladius of Roman legionaries to the sturdiest of Lorica Segmentata, form your battle lines with the finest from antiquity!

Thunderous Charges: Shatter enemy formations! Charges across the board are now much deadlier, with refined unit collisions allowing the full mass and momentum of units crashing into each other to be felt. Units now begin their charges sooner and are quicker, and Cavalry, elephant, and chariot charges can now completely flatten unbraced formations, while Infantry battle lines now throw their full weight into breaking through and pushing back enemy units. Feel the fury as your cavalry smashes through enemy lines, instilling fear and chaos across the battlefield.

🏃 Realistic Unit Movement: Forward march! Unit speeds have been carefully recalibrated with realism in mind. A unit’s speed, acceleration, and deceleration now directly correlate with their mass. Your lightest skirmishers will be able to rapidly redeploy at a moment’s notice, while your heaviest phalanx units will need some time to get up to full speed. Heavy, disciplined troops will meet enemy battle lines in concentrated formation, while light shock troops will mercilessly rush down the enemy. Additionally, marching speeds have been aligned across all units to the Roman standard of 3 mph / 4.8 kmh so that your formations remain fully intact for coming battles. Whether you're executing an ambush, launching a flanking maneuver, or engaging in a tactical retreat, your units will be primed to maneuver across the field.

⚖️ Authentic Unit Mass: Understand the weight of your warriors! Unit mass is now realistically calculated based on the bodyweight, clothing, armor, and weaponry of your troops, with values derived from historical works, studies, and research. Shock cavalry, elephants, and chariots can now be used to break through enemy formations due to their concentrated use of mass, whereas heavy infantry can hold steadfast, brace and rapidly recover from whatever may come their way. From simple tunics and slings to the full panoply of a Parthian Cataphract, witness the battlefield as it truly comes to life with the impact of massive forces clashing.

💥 Maximum Kinetic Impact: Break even the mightiest of charges! Utilize new battlefield tactics with formation-disrupting effects. Projectiles now possess the power to stagger, stun, and knock down enemy formations based on their kinetic energy. Need to pepper and break apart a formation from afar? Bring forth the slingers! A barbarian horde at the doorstep of your battle line? Javelinmen, forward! As troops fall, battle lines will become entangled and chaotic. Use these new mechanics to redefine the shape of the battlefield and send shockwaves through enemy ranks.

🏹 Dynamic Missile Warfare: Cry “Havoc!”, and let slip the arrows of war! Embrace a dynamic battlefield where each projectile type now fills unique tactical roles, opening up new avenues of attack for you and foe alike. See below to learn more, and know that whether it be javelins that deliver debilitating shield-crippling effects, to bows that offer precise long-range fire, every skirmisher offers a unique path to seizing victory.
