You can use middle click and drag to make a selection which is especially useful when:

• Increasing birthrates
  
• Building Buildings
  
• Building Economy
  
• Increasing Tax efficiency
  
• Converting religion

And so on

When building many buildings you will want to go back to the menu and not have to scroll down the list for each building you are building.

Pressing the image of the selected building will send you back to the menu so you can choose the next building you want to build
