Preamble
If you're interested in winning this game - or frustrated of constantly losing - this guide is for you.

I will describe some tips and hints, which maps to harvest, which items to take and which powers to use. This is from my experience, and I'm by far not the best player, but I hope to provide a guide I, for myself, would've been happy to have had when I started to play this nice game.

Deadly Days is about a group of survivors of a zombie apocalypse and their efforts to stop this nightmare - or just to get out of it. On your way you'll increase your party size, collect items and build things while challenging a constantly rising tide of the undead.

This is a rogue-like game, so expect to lose your group several times. However with each run you will improve your leader and get access to more items, powers and survivors.
The Basics
If you want to easily win this game, you should start by choosing the Easy Mode at startup. Take Research Specialization to get the Starting Item Coffee (Base Item, increases the length of the day) and the Starting Power map-wide Heal (Special Power). You might want to use a different Specialization to unlock more items/powers/survivors, for example Scavenge Specialization to unlock the Special Power Emergency Teleport (more about the Powers later), but in general this is not necessary - it just makes your life in future runs easier.

Each mission has a danger level between 1 and 5: Green = 1, Lemon = 2, Yellow = 3, Orange = 4 and Red = 5. Most of the time you should go on easier missions.

The bigger the map, the longer it will take to loot it, so always take smaller ones if possible.

Remember you can pause the game whenever you like by pushing the space bar.

Click to loot a location, click again to change your group member performing this action.

Press CTRL to stand and attack into the direction of the mouse cursor.
Resources
You need apples to feed your survivors, so always keep an eye on your stash, and do not let your group size grow into a dimension you cannot supply with food anymore. In fact, farming apples is one of your highest priorities. Ways to achieve this, sorted from best to worst:
  • Missions with Supermarkets (best) and Hospitals
  • Apple Trees (select missions with "Plenty of Apple Trees in the Area")
  • Vending Machines (select missions with "A cluster of vending machines was spotted")
  • School bus (Mission description "an old bus was seen here")
  • Greenhouse (Base room)
  • sometimes: Airdrop via Radio Room (Base room)
  • Recycler (Base item)
  • sometimes: Treasure Zombie
  • After each Burger Factory Map piece found, apples may be one of three possible reward picks
  • Rescue mission (survivor drops some food)

The other resources are tools and scraps. Tools are used to build rooms, but besides that they are not much of use. Scraps are used to repair weapons, upgrade items and powers, build rooms and are a currency for some Vending Machines. Luckily, scraps can be found rather frequently, weapons can be sold for scraps, and even some zombies drop those.
Base Rooms
These rooms have good benefits, but they require tools to be built. Try to get as many tools as possible on your first missions (but do not forget food is most important!). The best sources for tools are Hardware Stores, Fork Lifts and Vending Machines. My recommendations for the rooms are:
  1. Planning Room (leveling up is always good). However, if you're going to construct the rocket to leave the zombie infested earth, most of your missions will be about collection rocket parts, and you will most probably never collect everything on those maps to get the extra level.
  2. Radio Room or Greenhouse (for extra Food).
  3. Depends, if you want to go to space, choose the Rocket Workshop, otherwise Satellite Uplink.
Your Group
The first survivor is your leader. They receive buffs and items by leveling the selected Specialization. If you loose a survivor, you can do a Graveyard Mission and loot the crypt there to revive a dead one. Remember though that losing your leader is not a big issue, because the next survivor in the row will become the new one and gets all your leader's special abilities.

Every new group member from a rescue mission will have a low level, so keep in mind you may have to level that one up before entering the Burger Factory. You can level up by using apples, but better keep those, except for the big finale.

Each survivor has their own skills. I do not recommend to focus too much on those, it is way more important to have a good group size than a few perfectly skilled members. You will need to loot a lot in parallel to save time, and a ton of fire power, so always prefer quantity over quality (if you can feed everyone, of course).
Weapons
Always try to get Legenday Weapons. You can find those in Vending Machines. Most are even better than any weapon of a much higher level.

Ranged weapons are easier to use than melee ones, also most Legendaries are guns. Have a good mix of different weapon types equipped. Keep in mind though that any explosive weapon might also hurt your group members.

Don't forget to check after each mission if you have found better weapons than the ones your survivors have equipped already. Sometimes a rare weapon is better than a regular one though it has a lower level. Sell weapons you're not using to get some scraps.

I do not recommend to create any weapon at your Workbench. Just use the ones you will find, and any Legendary Weapon is better anyways.
Special Powers
By far the best Power is the Emergency Teleport. Going a long way back to your bus in the night, especially on a map with a higher difficulty, can kill your entire group. Your survivors should be close together though, noone scavenging or be dragged by a Half Zombie - otherwise those will not be teleported with the rest of the group.

The map-wide Heal should be your starting Power. Use it in case of emergency, e.g. if your group runs into any explosion and is reduced to less than half of their hit points.

Further useful Powers are Time Stop, Speed Boost and Freeze Gas.

I recommend to use Space to pause the game before using a Power, especially in a stressful situation.
Base Items
There are a ton of Base Items in this game, and many are quite useful. The following are the ones I recommend. You may not get any of these though (except for Coffee), because they randomly drop, but the best chances provide Vending Machines.

Having more time in daylight is extremely useful. Luckily you get Coffee for free when selecting Research Specialization at the start.

If you go for ranged weapons, which I highly recommend, Dart powers those up a lot.

Being immune to fires and Burning Zombies' attacks is very useful. Also, if you choose to win this game by entering the Burger Factory, you might be forced to walk through flames.

There are poison clouds at some maps and in the Burger Factory, and Toxic Zombies also have a poison cloud attack.

Some more recommendations in short, roughly ordered by usefulness:
  • Gun Oil: reload faster
  • Sickbed: healing zones, upgrade: more damage when inside the zone
  • Viral Drugs: survivors spread a healing infection
  • Red Syringe: better healing effects
  • Zombie Blood Funnel: decreases cooldown of Basic Abilites (Air Strikes and Healing)
  • Freezer: Air Strikes freeze Zombies
  • Dynamite: more damage from Air Strikes
  • Blackboard: more experience for survivors
  • Zombie Blood Vial: Basic Abilites have no cooldown for the first seconds of a day (see "Tips and Tricks" for the best usage of this)

Zombie types
Over the days, some special zombies are added to the pool of your enemies. Some are annoying, others will make your survivors' lives miserable. My list, ordered from best to worse:
  • Short Zombies: Hard to spot, and they steal items, but you can get these back when you kill those short ones, so not a big issue.
  • Bloated Zombies: If killed, they will release a swarm of rats.
  • Runner Zombies: Fast but not hard. In the night though, those get really, really quick. Another good reason to not stay up for too long when it's getting dark.
  • Freezing Zombies: Being frozen reduces the speed, which is inconvenient, but bearable in most cases.
  • Electrified Zombies: Their teleport (and their cracking sounds when doing it) is annoying, but they are not too tough.
  • Burning Zombies: They explode in flames when killed, which is painful. However there is a very useful Base Item, the upgraded Fire Helmet, to prevent this damage
  • Toxic Zombies: The clouds are ugly, so better have the Gasmask as your Base Item.
  • Hulk Zombies: These are tough and get into a rage when at low hit points. A good counter is to freeze those, otherwise they might reduce any survivor's health pretty quickly.
  • Half Zombies: These guys not just grab survivors and make them helpless, they also slowly pull those towards them. If these are your first special zombies on a run, you might just want to restart it because they are such a huge annoyance.
Easy Win: Going into Space
For your survivors to go to space and leave the zombie infested earth behind, you must build the Rocket Workshop and collect ten pieces of a spacecraft.

After having built the Workshop, one of the daily missions will have the information "a rocket part should be here". These missions are always of maximum difficulty and on the second biggest map. The rocket part however may appear near the bus, so you do not have to always cross the whole map. Each will always either be in the open lying on the ground, inside a red building, at a fork lift or inside a "PASA" truck:

After the rocket is finished, you can choose a mission to end this game successfully.

Do not worry if a mission to get a rocket part fails, you will always get a new daily mission to get one. Do not collect any Burger Factory map tiles, you do not need them, and this might make the missions harder.

You do not need the best (i.e. Legendary) weapons for this run, neither a large group - three to five survivors should be sufficient.

Do not bother too much about food either, you should find some apple trees on these maps. Further, if your group is rather small, you do not need that much food anyways.

The Emergency Teleport Power is highly recommended for this strategy to get back to the bus in no time. Alternatively, the Speed Boost makes your group move nearly as fast as light, while Time Stop lets any Zombie move in slow motion.

Side note: This may be the best strategy to get the Only the basics ("Win a run without upgrading any items or powers") and Sole survivor ("Win a run with only one survivor living") achievement - just let every group member die except for one before taking the "Start the rocket" mission.
Harder Win: The Burger Factory
If you want to free the world, you have to stop the burger production. To do this, collect all 4 map pieces in Burger missions, then choose the final one. You will see an image of the Final Boss Zombie on the mission graphic.

Choose your Base Items and Special Powers wisely. As mentioned above, Gasmask and Fire Helmet are highly recommended. Exchange any Special Power and Base Item not being of use in the Factory, e.g. Emergency Teleport (you will enter the bus in the end automatically) and Coffee (there is no dawn in the Factory), and anything increasing your loot chances or food drops.

Level up all your group members with food - you do not need this anymore (with the exception of some characters getting a buff from stored food, but leveling up may anyways be the best choice).

Every single one of the Final Boss Zombies is pretty tough.
  • Sam divides into smaller zombies. Of the three, this might be the weakest.
  • Jack is performing some very dangerous jump attacks. Be quick to move out of his landing zone.
  • Frank is just a huge bully.
Tips and Tricks
  • Abuse the space bar and pause the game whenever you like - at the start of each mission to check your objectives, whenever you have to coordinate your survivors, and when your survivors are in danger and you need to use a Special Power to save them.
  • Air Strikes reveal a small portion of the map. Use this to get more intelligence. Combined with the Base item Zombie Blood Vial, you can plaster the map with Air Strikes. Use the pause function to do this (though there is no "cooldown for the first 8 seconds" for the Basic Abilities, in fact you have to unpause for a moment before being able to drop another Air Strike). This is especially helpful when searching for rocket parts. Important note: The Orbital Laser from the Satelite Uplink room does not reveal any map parts!
  • Though most maps are black, you can pause the game and move over the map to listen to any zombie groans. If you're in search for the main goal of the mission, e.g. to loot a supermarket, you may hear lots of groans where it is located. Combine this with dropping an Air Strike at that location to see if your goal is there.
  • Gas clouds and fires can be removed by using Air Strikes on them. Beware though that gas clouds explode and harm everyone nearby.
