Miscellaneous Tweaks, Fixes, Enhancements, and More!

Description
Changes some gameplay features and the difficulty of Half-Life 2 to make it more similar to Half-Life 1, buffs weapons to a similar level to those in RTB:R, and implements a couple of other minor changes and fixes to the game. Resources are more scarce, but whatever you do manage to obtain will be more effective and meaningful.

If you have some time, please rate the mod and share your experience!

The crosshairs, tweaked smg barrel, and hud icons are all made by me. Feel free to make ports out of these assets, just make sure to give me credit where it's due.

If you just want the HUD and fixes, go here:
https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3379521961

If you still find the game too easy, try this addon here:
https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3382225419

I've also uploaded an MMod version here:
https://gamebanana.com/mods/560507

Game play-tested on hard difficulty. Feedback is always appreciated!

Installation
You will need GFCScape to access the addon's content and finish installation; otherwise, the HUD and weapon scripts will be broken.
https://gamebanana.com/tools/26

NOTE: I've made backups to revert any steps that involve replacing the original files (scroll down for more info).

>Getting it to work:
0. Set this mod high up in your load order so that its changes, do not get overwritten.

>To extract the addon's contents:
1. Go to Half-Life 2's main directory at steamapps\common\Half-Life 2\hl2. There should be a folder called "custom." If this folder does not exist, create it.
2. Create a new folder within the "custom" folder and name it whatever you want. This is where you will unpack the contents of the mod.
3. Navigate to
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\workshop\content\220\3378289922.
If you have Half-Life 2 installed on another drive, look for the steam workshop folder there.
4. Open workshop_dir.vpk with GCFScape and drag all its contents into the folder you just created within the custom folder.

>To install the custom Weapon Names [Warning: Requires Overwrite]:
1. Go to resource\Install Weapon Names in this mod and copy all of the folder's contents.
2. Navigate steamapps\common\Half-Life2\resource, paste the contents you copied, and overwrite when prompted.
NOTE: Only English support is available as of right now.

>To install the Custom HUD [Warning: Requires Overwrite]:
1. Go to resource\Install Custom HUD in this mod and copy the folder's contents.
2. Navigate to steamapps\common\Half-Life 2 and paste the contents you copied and overwrite when prompted. This covers all officials hl2 languages as of this update.

>To ensure that all the weapon scripts work (credits to @Guicool for bringing up this issue and user @thatmoodyguy for serving as the inspiration for this solution) [Warning: Requires Overwrite]:
1. Go to resource\.Trunkated VPK in this mod and copy the hl2_complete_misc_dir.vpk. This file is identical to the one in base hl2, except it's missing some files that cause issues; don't worry as I made backups for the files.
2. Navigate to steamapps\common\Half-Life 2\hl2_complete and paste the file there. This will remove all of the weapon scripts located in hl2_complete that tend to overwrite mod changes; affected weapons include RPG, smg1, and crossbow.

>Activating the Extras
1. Go to cfg\Fun Extras in this mod.
2. Drag the .cfg file you wish to activate into the cfg folder of the mod.
NOTE: If you want better ammo capacities, I recommend you try either hl1ammo.cfg or ammo+.cfg

Backup
>Restoring all of the original files:
1. Go to resource\.Backup in this mod's folder and copy all of its contents.
2. Navigate to steamapps\Half-Life 2 and paste the copied files here. Your game should have all of its original files back.

NOTE: If the HUD is still messed up while this mod is installed, you can do two things:
-If you want the Vanilla HUD, but still use this mod, unsubscribe from the mod and just leave the addon's instance in your "custom" half-life 2 folder, navigate to the resource for this mod folder, and delete hudlayout.res.
-If you want to use the HUD from another workshop mod, just set that mod with higher priority than this one.

You are done! Enjoy!

Features

Gameplay Changes
-Half-Life 1-style H.E.V suit: Enemies do more damage, but the H.E.V suit protects you more. Overall, you have more effective health if you keep your suit charged up, but if you run out, you will really feel the armor_gone.mp3 "armor compromised."
-Disabled AUTO-RELOADING. If you love reloading your weapons, well, this mod is also for you. Keep your weapons locked and loaded, or suffer the consequences.
-Weapons now drop only about 40% of their maximum clip. Ammo crates still vary depending on difficulty. Make sure to do the last step of the installation for this to work properly with all weapons.
-Less armor, and health pickups (like hard mode in HL1): Every ammo and health drop matters more now. Explore to stay stocked up and try to conserve your health and armor.

*Health Station 50 => 40
*Medkits 25 => 10
*Vials 10 => 5
*Energy Station 75 => 35
*Batteries 15 => 10

-Adjusted ammo capacities and damage for some weapons. Heavy inspiration was taken from RTB:R and EZ:2.

*Pistol max 150 => 90 Dmg 5 => 7
*Magnum max 12 => 18
*SMG max 225 => 180 Dmg 4 => 5
*AR2 max 60 => 80 Dmg 8 => 10
*AR2 clip 30 => 20
*AR2 secondary 3 => 5
*Shotgun max 30 => 24 Dmg 8 => 9
*Shotgun clip 6 => 8

-Buffed the ammo rate of the airboat and reduced its ammo drain rate slightly.
-Buffed health the Rebels to keep up with the new damage values.
-Nerfed strider and gun ships' health by so that they take 4, 5, or 6 rockets respectively depending on difficulty.
-Nerfed the APC's health to 500 for an easier airboat takedown.
-Nerfed the poison headcrab's health to 25 to make it die to 1 magnum shot even on hard and increased the poison zombie health very slightly to no longer die in the same number of hits between the crossbow and revolver.
-Increased the regular headcrab's health to 14 (dies to 2 pistol shots on normal and 3 on hard).

Visuals
-Added unique crosshairs for all weapons inspired by games like Black Mesa, RTBR, and MMod.
-Disabled the "directional" crosshair for the airboat.
-Added custom weapon names in the weapon select HUD, inspired by Rising the Bar: Redux.
-Added Health and Suit HUD icons inspired by Half-Life 2: MMod and more visible crosshair.
-Adjusted weapon sprite icon for the smg and ported the episode crossbow sprite.
-Made adjustments to the console HUD to make the icons fit.
-Tweaked the vanilla grenade texture, which originally said M-83 (smoke grenade) instead of MK3A2 (explosive grenade).

Miscellaneous
-Added a bind to the ALT key to slow down player movement.
-Changed gravity from 800 to 600. This translates to a slightly floatier jump.
-Added extended music for the Lighthouse Point fight, Nova Prospekt beach assault, plaza defense, final strider battle, and citadel ascent.
-Increased fire damage to give visual feedback after the new armor changes.

@The Pacer It's just a cosmetic change that changes the difficulty selection menu, intended for use alongside the "hardmode" extra. This is essentially part of the "Harder Difficulty Tweaks" mod, which I decided to embed within this mod to prevent conflicts when using some of the customization options.

@Private Parts A lot of mods don't work if you just subscribe to the workshop and, even if you do manually install a mod, there are some files that just cannot be modded without a direct replacement, particularly the HUD. Unfortunately, a lot of features of the mod require these installation steps due to how files in-game are loaded or they simply won't work at all.

What's the hard mode hud and what does it do?

what's with the overcomplicated download process?

@L.Starkweder Hi, to restore the vanilla HUD, you need to unsubscribe from the mod in the steam workshop, go to your instance of this mod in your custom folder, and delete:

-hudlayout.res and hudtextures.txt inside the scripts folder
-halflife2.ttf inside the resource folder

Hope this helps!

Hi, sorry, I forgot to update the instructions properly since I have a lot of backup copies. Thanks for letting me know. I will be updating the description soon since there is a way simpler method now that only requires dragging and dropping some files.

I will also be including an option to revert to a slightly improved version of the AR2 that holds 30 rounds. The default one has 20 rounds because it is significantly more powerful now compared to vanilla. I based this change on the Boreal Alyph ar2, which held 25 rounds. It is pretty much intended to feel like a battle rifle, such as a SCAR or FN FAL, so it felt pretty unbalanced having it with a larger magazine size, which ended up outclassing the other weapons.

Never mind, found my answer in the scripts folder. I´m such a hacker ;)
