Description
This mod adds the new utility item: Night Vision Goggles (NVG). The NVG provide visibility in darker areas and can be toggled on/off at any time during the mission. Additionally, NVG grant a passive bonus to aim (higher during nighttime). Also provides immunity to blindness as well as a large bonus to infiltration (if playing with Covert Infiltration or Long War of the Chosen).

NVG are unlocked early game, after performing the Advent Trooper autopsy.
Can be purchased in Engineering later on.

You can customize the main NVG effect in the config. You can change the color, brightness, grain size, scanline size and more.

You can also decide which types of lighting maps grant a specific passive bonus. The mod has forward compatibility with any present and future lighting maps (via the config).

Apart from that, you can assign individual night vision brightness settings for specific lighting maps. That way, you can also enjoy the visuals during daytime without having your eyes flashbanged. The config already includes default setting presets for all vanilla and modded lighting maps (so you can use it out of the box), but can be fine-tuned even further, if you feel like it.

As a bonus, this mod adds six night vision filters to Photobooth: four standard, and two custom variants. Both custom filters can have their colors adjusted in the Photobooth ("Filters" tab).
To change the filter color, select the "Tint Background" option and choose one of the First Background colors.

Lastly, the mod includes multiple console commands for testing the night vision effect visuals. This should be a useful tool for both modders as well as regular players who want to make extensive changes to config, or to test other effects. Additional information in the XComNVGMaps.ini file.

CONFIG:
There are many config files in this mod. Here is an explanation for the files:

- XComNVG.ini:
Standard item settings (for non-overhaul campaigns), aim and passive perk bonus settings, cosmetic option settings, sound settings, night vision effect customization (color and others).

- XComNVGBonuses.ini:
A list of all lighting maps that grant either daytime or nighttime bonus to aim.

- XComNVGMaps.ini:
A list of custom nightvision brightness settings for individual lighting maps. If you feel that night vision is too bright or dark on some lighting maps, this is the place to adjust it.
Also includes information about the console commands added by this mod.

"Compatibility" folder:
Stores the bridge config used only by Covert Infiltration or Long War of The Chosen.

COMPATIBILITY/REQUIREMENTS:
Post Process Status Effects mod is required for this mod to work. Not having that mod installed will cause the crash upon start.
X2WOTCCommunityHighlander is required as well.

Other than those requirements, the mod should be compatible with anything.
Compatible with Covert Infiltration and LWOTC out of the box. Bridge config is already included.
Can be added during the campaign.
No MCOs (Mod Class Overrides) are used.

Has a compatibility mode with A Harder War: Night Mission Rules. If you have both mods installed, Night Ops Goggles item will automatically use the night vision visual effect.

KNOWN ISSUES:
NVG might not grant the blind immunity as intended: pending fix.

Feel free to report any feedback/issues.
Some brightness settings for specific lighting maps may be gradually fine-tuned in later updates. Additional feedback welcome.

COMPANION MODS:
I highly recommend using this mod with lighting map packs for better atmosphere:
Aquilio's Weather Pack
DLC Lighting Maps
Tunnel & Abandoned Lighting Maps
More Environmental Lighting Maps & Darker Nights by ∑3245

as well as Full Shadow Report, which allows to preview the time of day in the Squad Loadout screen for the upcoming mission.

The default cosmetics used by this mod come from Capnbubs Accessories and will be automatically equipped when installed (you can also assign other cosmetics in the config instead).
Capnbubs Accessories: Original version
Capnbubs Accessories: Cooked version

Lastly, I recommend the One Million Colours mod for additional color options in the Photobooth when using custom filters.

Big thanks to robojumper for the Post Process Status Effects mod, which was an immense help when setting up the required materials and saved me a dozen hours of headache.

No. Those are optional mods. The mandatory stuff is on the sidebar.

Do you need Capnbubs Accessories/One Million Colours? I don't like adding too many cosmetic mods, but your ambience pack looks nice and I like the idea of night/light mechanics

Yeah, should be already available in Engineering when you return to the Avenger.

Can I add this to an ongoing campaign. I have already unlocked the Advent Trooper Corpse.

Absolute love your mods! It's like playing a new game!
