Useful Skill Colours [ESG]

In 1 collection by mdel
ESG Plus
14 items
Description
Tints skill icons according to their associated Mastery.

In the vanilla skill tree UI, generic and starting skills are always green, class-based blue, and race-based orange. This is not terribly informative since the associated tree is also reflected in the screen location.

This mod aims to make it a little quicker to visually navigate by painting individual skills according to their Mastery. Wit (empire-focussed) skills are purple, Labour (planet-focussed) green, Command (combat-focussed) red, and Wanderlust (exploration-focussed) blue. No longer is it necessary to memorise each icon or hover over them individually when selecting skills: if you're building up an admiral to go to war, click the red ones, etc.

There are several skills whose associated Mastery is contradictory in the base game files (for example the same benefit being attributed to different Masteries for different Heroes), so this mod also includes some corrections (since the colourisation makes them particularly glaring).
The list of such changes may be found in CHANGES.txt in the mod directory.

This is the ESG-compatible version of the original mod (to be loaded after ESG). It should not be used together with the original one.

Also compatible with "Political Skill Trees". If using that mod, load this one after both it and ESG.

@_m_a_: Certainly appreciate the feedback! Have a go with the new version, as I said I think you'll find it's a little kinder to Wanderlust. My main aim is to make the colours reflect reality though, so it's easy for the user to find skills that suite a particular role. Having more actual Wanderlust skills to balance it out would be cool, but that'd be a different mod.

Hmm, i see. You done something innovative for the game. (Better UI 😁)
Probablem is, Wanderlust skills are quite uncommon (even rarer in ESG and PSTrees)
So youmay need to make some work to change the colors in Wanderlusts favor.
Other than eye candy for colors, this mod works as intended. Do you need a feedback like this?

@_m_a_: Indeed, however "Dust Catalyzation" also reduces system upkeep (a Wit effect), while the ESG version of "Sensitive Systems" also boosts siege and gives dust on kills (both Command effects). So it's not so clear cut. That said I've swapped them both back to Wanderlust in the new version to minimise controversy.

By the way, all the category changes are listed explicitly in the CHANGES.txt in the mod directory - no need to "test" to find them. ;)

after some testing, issue is from this mod. Not from "Political Skill Trees"
You can see that by just starting with United Empire.
Dust Catalization considered as Wit (should be Wanderlust - Hero Cooldown)
Sensitive Systems considered as Command (should be Wanderlust - Fleet Free Movement)
Can you take a look in your code?

@_m_a_ Fair enough. In general I have tried to be generous toward Wanderlust in my classification because it is fairly underrepresented generally (pretty much just covers movement and probes). But always open to suggestions

My bad.
It is Political Skill Trees doin after testing.
That mod mainly -do not add any wanderlust skill.
So total numbers are very few
(-2 for all heroes) if I'm not mistaken

@_m_a_ could you elaborate, what specific skills are not classed "wanderlust" that you expect to be?
_m_a_ 26 Jan @ 5:17am
many skills are not considered as "wanderlust"
strange bug
probably "Political Skill Trees" bug, using it.
