The reason why they're removed in the L4D2 version is because L4D1 had 2 variants of each map, one for Campaign and another one for Versus.

L4D2 uses the VS variants for both gamemodes, probably because of the new Special Infected.

@game man In the first left 4 dead, there are these fire escapes, but in left 4 dead 2, valve removed them for some reason.

If it was accidentally missing, I can't believe Valve just left it alone

It wasn't missing, but Valve did it intentionally do this?

There's a missing fire escape right across the street from this too, above the subway red line station entrance.
