Hello all, Lonnie here with the (currently) second to last achievement/progression guide for the Ace Attorney series, Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies!

Dual Destinies was definitely the hardest game for me to get through back when it first came out, I'm not gonna lie. While I love the AJ trilogy and nearly everything that came from it, Dual Destinies just felt like a chore to complete during the first three cases. It doesn't help that DD (and SOJ) have 6 cases each, 5 normal cases and one Special/DLC case which became the norm during the modern era of AA games, so to me it always felt like I had to suffer to access the 3 cases that I actually ENJOYED in the game. Of course, everyone experiences gaming different, and I know a lot of people who love DD and consider it their favorite game. I can't say the same, but to each their own!

Anyways, I should save the yapping for the Conclusion, so from here are my usual disclaimers and tips. The DD and SOJ guides may just be the longest guides I make due to how many cases they have, so without further ado let's get into the guide!

Disclaimers and Important Things to Note
  • I play the Ace Attorney games on mouse and keyboard, so I will be operating my guides by that medium. If you play on controller, just press the appropriate controller button!
  • If you are going for 100% achievements, DO NOT PLAY THE GAME IN STORY MODE! Story Mode is essentially just an automatic playthrough, so a lot of achievements are disabled (including story-based ones. Play the game manually!)
  • I will include any gameplay tips in the solution guide, such as keystrokes that make the menus transition smoother
  • I will include sections for each Chapter based achievement. I will also go into detail about where you need to go for each achievement in its proper Solution chapter, so don't worry about needing to use the Achievement section for keeping track!
  • This game collection has an Accolades section in the Special Contents. You can check all of your progress for multi-part achievements in that section, making it way easier to see what you're missing for the achievement.
Episode 1 - Achievements
Stylish Threads
Play Dual Destinies/Spirit of Justice with a costume equipped. Extremely easy achievement to get, simply go to either game's respective Game Menu, select Costumes, and equip a costume. You only need to equip one costume for this achievement, and you unlock it right away when you load into the game. You do not need to complete the game in the costume, only load into the game with a costume equipped.

Episode 1 - Solutions
You will be treated to (at this point) the first fully animated and dubbed cutscene in the Ace Attorney series. You see Apollo Justice, our protagonist from the game prior, but you also catch a glimpse of the newest character and first female attorney since Mia and Calisto, Athena Cykes. You also see Phoenix Wright, badge reinstated and in a new outfit! If you recall the end of AJ:AA, Phoenix was cleared of his stigma and said that he may retake the bar exam, and it turns out he did! Though it seems it was for a particular reason. . .

When the Bomb Went Off - Mood Matrix
You will now be introduced to Athena's unique mechanic, the Mood Matrix. Much like how Phoenix and Apollo have their own unique powers (Magatama/Psyche Locks and Bracelet/Perception), Athena's special skill is her heightened sense of hearing which allows her to hear the true emotions behind a person's word, as if she's listening to the very words of someone's heart. Her partner Widget, the little necklace she wears, allows Athena to input these emotions into the Mood Matrix to then study and see these emotions tied to the current testimony. The goal behind the Mood Matrix is to clear out the Noise Level by pinpointing inconsistent emotions and revealing the truth behind given testimony.

Bad End 1 - The Judge stops the cross-examination and declares Simon guilty. He is executed the next day, causing Aura and the hostages to vanish. Athena then leaves the agency, and Apollo is irreparably broken mentally. Phoenix Wright turns in his badge permanently, giving up on being a lawyer
Note - There are three possible bad endings for this case. The first of which you will receive if your meter is depleted entirely during any point of the above testimony. Bad Ends are not required for any of the achievements in this game, but I will detail them for you anyways!

With the conclusion of Turnabout for Tomorrow, Dual Destinies' chronological story is complete! However, Dual Destinies eventually received a case that was the first of its kind; Turnabout Reclaimed, a Special Episode released as DLC. (Spirit of Justice will also end up receiving a Special Episode as DLC, meaning both of these games have a total of 6 cases to get through!)

Turnabout Reclaimed chronologically takes place BEFORE most of the events of Dual Destinies' main story (I think its right after Monstrous Turnabout but before Turnabout Academy? Maybe? Don't quote me on that lol) but it is the first case Phoenix takes on after becoming a lawyer again. Meaning Simon Blackquill (who is the acting prosecutor) is still in chains and Bobby Fulbright is still his handler/partner. Keep this in mind as you play in case the chronological aspect gets confusing!

I have to be honest. Making this guide was the worst experience of my life. Every single step of the way there was SOME issue that pushed back my work/release date. I had a bunch of problems with Steam and the horrid Failure Code: 15 error (of which I got ZERO help from Steam about), I had to write chunks of the guide on Google Docs and Notepad (which caused a TON of formatting errors and edits that I had to repeatedly go back and fix....which took forever due to the Failure Code: 15 error) and the game itself crashed a ton of times and I had to redo Episode 5 THREE TIMES just to get the completion achievement!

This all was compounded by how much I dislike Dual Destinies as a game (some of the cases are fine, but overall I liked the characters FAR better than playing the game itself) so the fact that I was forced to spend SO MUCH TIME on it really just made me super angry and there were a few times I got close to giving up. But, I didn't. And the guide and game are finally finished.

So, here it is! I'll start working on Spirit of Justice soon (which is my favorite game out of the entire series) but I'm gonna be taking a long, LONG break before I do any of that.
