Terraforming Devices

Description
Take control of your map's terrain with Terraforming Devices—reshape soil, water, and landscapes to bend nature to your will. Forge fertile farmlands or carve out deep water defenses. Transform the world your pawns call home.

  • Farm Expansion: Convert barren land into fertile soil for higher yields.
  • Tactical Defense: Surround your base with deep or ocean water for natural barriers.
  • Land Reclamation: Reduce deep water to shallow for easier construction.
  • Aesthetic Appeal: Turn your map into something your colonists can vibe with—nothing says demure like having good feng shui amidst chaos.

New Pumps & Injectors
Adds six new devices, each with unique terraforming abilities. The seventh device, the Moisture Pump, is already included in the core game.

  • Soil Injector
    • Transforms Sand, Stony Soil, Lichen-Covered Soil, Rich Soil → Soil
  • Rich Soil Injector
    • Transforms Soil → Rich Soil
  • Moisture Injector
    • Soil, Stony Soil, Marsh, Mud → Shallow Water
    • Sand, Soft Sand → Shallow Ocean Water
  • Deep Water Injector
    • Shallow Water, Marsh → Deep Water
    • Shallow Ocean Water → Deep Ocean Water
  • Deep Water Pump
    • Deep Water → Shallow Water
    • Deep Ocean Water → Shallow Ocean Water
  • Stony Soil Injector
    • Sand, Soil, Mossy Terrain, Sandstone (Rough, Rough-Hewn), Granite (Rough, Rough-Hewn), Limestone (Rough, Rough-Hewn), Slate (Rough, Rough-Hewn), Marble (Rough, Rough-Hewn), Broken Asphalt, Packed Dirt → Gravel

All transformations are permanent unless changed again by another device.

Requirements
  • Research Name: Terraforming Devices (Unlocked after Electricity)
  • Includes: Original Moisture Pump + 5 new Pumps/Injectors
  • Costs Per Injector/Pump: 75 Steel, 4 Components (each)
  • Power Usage Per Injector/Pump: 450W (each)
  • Radius & Time To Complete Terrain Change: 6.9 tiles over 20 days

Adds a Reinforced Bridge
  • Stronger than standard bridges but still vulnerable to enough damage. Not required for pump/injector functionality, but provides more building flexibility over water. Cannot be built on deep water or deep ocean water.

Additional Notes
  • Each device can be uninstalled, reinstalled, deconstructed, and you can toggle usage or power on/off from its menu interface.
  • Each device covers its 6.9 tile radius in 20 days (instead of the vanilla 60 days) but power requirement is scaled to be three times than the vanilla moisture pump electricity requirement (i.e. time to radius went from 60 to 20 and required power went from 150 to 450).

If you want to have bridges or structures completely surrounded by deep water, build those bridges and structures first, then use a Deep Water Injector to fill with deep water.

Compatibility
  • Game Version: RimWorld 1.5+.
  • Mod Conflicts: None known.

Glorious. Need more injectors though. What a fine addition, it could be, converting soil, rich soil or stony soil into sand and maybe even further, into soft sand

if you smooth rocks the stony soil pump doesn't function correctly. it does not convert the rocks to soil

Is an update for 1.6 planned?

I can't get this to work at all. I've got so much power running to both the moisture injector and deep water injector and they still show up with the lightning bolt like they aren't connected...

@SilkCircuit
I have tried to change the behaviour of the deep water pump to allow for terrains from other mods however whatever i changed in the code, nothing worked. Even using base-game Tiles. I've gotten to the point where i completely removed the "Source"-Folder. Still everything worked. Maybe its in the Assemblies folder but i could be wrong. Can you recreate that or is something wierd happening?

never mind, none of them work except the moisture pump lol

is their a reason my deep water pump doesn't work? it just disappears after construction is finished.. the moisture pump works perfectly

heres a question: could you add a way to make stone. Not just stony soil, but outright rock.

As there are multiple types, maybe in the menue you can select if you want granite, marble, slate, ect.

Perhaps also a "biome default", which will randomly distribute (in a logical-ish way) watever stone types would naturally occur?

Just a thought!

I've noticed this doesn't seem to pick up the rough natural stone floors that result from [K]Extra Stone (https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=852103845) . That's a pretty long running mod which has been pretty popular and stable for a long time, so it's probably worth supporting those types.
