Description
The Harumo Class was created when someone answered the question "What if we specced 100% into guns?"
Featuring five twin turrets firing 127mm HESH/HEAT dual payload APS cannons firing at a laughable rpm, this floating machine gun is a force to be avoided. While it does boast some defenses, a fest of offensive torpedo's, and "some" armor, the design behind this monstrosity is clearly focused on the main battery.
Able to reach a respectable top speed of 40 m/s, and having a decent turning radius, it hopes to avoid hits rather than tank them. This is furthered by its anti missile and anti torpedo suite, as well as some anti cram munitions. However, it mainly deals with incoming fire by destroying the source before it gets destroyed.
The rapid fire HESH/HEAT rounds chew through internals not meticulously designed around mitigating such munitions. Anything without airgaps will last but a few salvos at best. Deck based munitions and weapons will be wiped with alarming speed. Turrets not double layered will be decapitated. You get the idea.
BUT, she does have a lot of weaknesses. Since the Harumo is, at least on paper, a destroyer, she has very little armor to speak of. So SAP or AP shells will have no issue hitting important subsystems. Adding to this, her turret designer was so focused on making the most firepower per volume efficient cannons possible, that he left out armor as part of the design allowance for width within the vessel. So a good hit to the turret base will create some fun fireworks. That is assuming you have functional turrets remaining, as each turret fires 10 shells a second, meaning that for each second you aren't hitting the Harumo with damage you are receiving 50 shells in return. Good luck.

This ship is part of the Neters Edge Custom Campaign, intended for use within the VAA navy. Be prepared to face against the rainbow of HESH/HEAT shells somewhere around the midgame.

The hull and some decorations on this ship are not up to my usual desired standard, but I have been sitting on this ship since 2022, so I needed to just get it out. I will update it someday, but for now the hull is a little wonky. Let me know if anything else gets messed up in updates. I made sure that even if it doesn't look 100%, it functions 100%. It really is a little menace to deal with. If you cheese the fight and just snipe the turrets its not a huge deal, but if you actually let AI vs AI go at it, it punches really hard. Again, this is part of the Neters Edge Custom Campaign, where it is recommended that you don't control ships manually to get the best experience out of the fights. But its a game, do what you want lol.
