Foolproof way to defeat Maul
First, you must let go your conscious self..

And by that I mean quit trying to land epic combos on this guy and just use this secret Jedi technique that's guaranteed to work 100%:

  • If you're using a PlayStation controller, get in close and keep mashing the square, triangle, or circle button (whichever has the fastest combo for any given character) like your life depended on it.
  • If you're using an Xbox controller, get in close and keep mashing the X, Y or B button (whichever has the fastest combo for any given character) like your life depended on it.
  • If you're using some bootleg controller or a keyboard, just get in close and keep mashing whatever key corresponds with those basic attacks.

That's right, just keep slapping that baby like you'd slap your hog on a lonely night, and you're pretty much gonna stun lock this fool until the end of time. This means that you'll be able to knock him around until you slap the horns off his forehead - or at least until he either runs away or he finally bites the dust in the final room.

This applies for pretty much any character with a light saber, though I haven't tested any of the bonus ones that weren't in the original version, or any of the gimmick characters that use blasters. I can only guarantee that this will work for the original roster.
Also. some characters are faster and each one has different attack animations and timing for each of those basic attacks. You just need to figure out which one is the fastest and has the fewest animation frames before it loops (eg. for Obi-Wan it's the square/X attack, for Qui-Gon it's the triangle/Y attack, etc.) The general idea is to just spam him with whatever attack you have that's the fastest because trying to be fancy or skillful will only get you killed faster. So in other words, play it like you used to play Tekken against your brother.

If he manages to knock you back, just block for a few moments until he's open for an attack again, and the go back to spamming the basic attacks. You should also watch out for this red beam attack that he does the most towards the end of the last level, because he can easily knock you back with that and then run over and completely wreck you with a flurry of saber blows. So when you're getting close, just make sure you jump over the red beam until you're close enough to start spamming him.

This should actually work on most enemies and bosses in the game but to varying degrees of success, so I'd recommend playing the rest of the game normally. It's just more fun that way. IMO only Maul fight sucks balls and deserves to be cheesed like that.

With master plo is unlocking X - X (PS) or A - A (XB), run around like a headless chicken, when he stops to try to attack you and misses, turn and hit that X - X.

With 0 green on my life bar I fought him with Master Plo and here is how it works on the final room of the game, after you run after you a bit, get tired and then idle and throw force lighting, jump over the force lighting and X - X him if he blocks run again, if he stops to do an attack combo, hit him with that X - X if he stops, wait for him to force lighting, rinse, repeat.

Now there is an attack pattern, where he throws a forward stab, that one is too far reaching and you will take damage from it (as well as Maul) ignore that one if you see it coming. Also the roundhouse kick is too short to be attacked by master Plo so ignore that one too. But if he does his jump attack where he leaps into the ear, that's prime for attacking, that's a double tap (meanig he doesn't block the second move X - X / A - A combo).

Spam X or Square with Obi-Wan and it's done.

This is probably the worst bossfight I have ever seen after decades of gaming and hundreds of games played. Here the difficulty simply comes from the fact that Maul is scripted to be a cheater. He has absolutely no penalty for anything. He cannot fall, he cannot take environmental damage, he can interrupt his own combos and force powers whenever he pleases to block your attacks, and he can even block your force powers with his lightsaber, which does not make any sense. This is the most artificial difficulty I have ever seen, it is even worse than the ancient dragon in dark souls 2. It should be used as an example of how to NOT make a bossfight. I'm pretty sure old game developers were disgusted by money, given how cruelly they harmed physically their customers for giving them some.

Yea, this does not work for plo koon.

By "most characters" ofc I mean the original roster, and not the gimmick or new ones.

It works with most characters. I just did it with Qui-Gon as well. But overall yes, some of them may have other attacks that you can spam which may be faster but basic attack usually works okay and you only have to adjust your timing when it comes to blocking (as I mentioned in the guide already).

Not 100% correct.

Your strategy depends on selected character.
Sure, square spamming will work for Obi-Wan, but will not work for Qui-Gon because of pause between combo series, for him you need to use triangle, triangle combo spam.

Also smashing strategy will not work for slower characters, like Plo Koon.
When I was kid I used combo square, square, triangle because smashing other combos are not working.

Key to win Darth Maul is to find fast combo, or smashing combo with button press delay to catch him when he stops blocking and wants to attack you.
