Description
"Well, now ... looks like we got ourselves a READER!" - Bill Hicks

--

The mod adds several new book types. They are identical to the standard Novel type in functionality, but their titles and descriptions are linked (real world novels from my real world collection), they're colored slightly differently, and they're worth more. They will also generate less frequently.

Classic sci-fi novel
Classic historical novel
Classic novel

(You can add additional title/description combinations via LinkedBookDefs for each category, should you care to. Notes are contained in the mod Defs folder.)

Additionally, there are special books added (they should generate incredibly rarely, and they will not be read automatically):

Journal - the quest log of a famous modder ... er ... adventurer. Gives you a random quest and vanishes.

The Codex of Ultimate Wisdom - Maxes out a random skill, and then vanishes.

The Invisible Book of Invisibility - Grants temporary invisibility - 3 to 10 charges, then it vanishes. (Anomaly or Royalty DLC required, otherwise it does nothing.)

The Necronomicon - Summon 10 shamblers - 3 to 10 charges, then it vanishes. (Anomaly DLC required, otherwise it does nothing.)

Jecrell's Grimoire - This book gives off a deeply-unsettling vibe. It might be best to leave it alone. Seriously, I mean it.

(See spoilers in the discussions, if you really must. Better yet, maybe just ... don't ... read ... the grimoire.)

Please note: these books cannot be copied by the "Printing Press" mod; the special ones by design, and the others because I'm working through an issue with them.

KNOWN ISSUES:
Custom books don't display title/description in quest reward dialog:
a) Custom novels receive vanilla naming (this sucks) - this should be fixed, they receive a generic name which resolves correctly when it is actually generated
b) Custom special books appear blank, but populate properly when item is received

I did recently push several updates to correct the filters and apply much more stringent prevention of auto-read. However, I've never tested against that mod in particular.

An unintended side effect that might be worth noting on the mod page: Running Romance on the Rim with this mod will result in couples autonomously reading this mod's books together, even those that have an on-read effect. Be prepared to build a forbidden section of your library.

I've made a few updates lately to address typos, major and minor bugs, etc. Known issues are still listed above, please let me know of any others!

Updated: Full fix for traders/ruined bookcase issues (Alpha Books). Thanks again for your report!

Of course, it created a new issue where my custom novels aren't populating correctly. Fix one thing, two more bugs jump out of the ground.

Thanks again for the report, I just pushed an update that resolves the issue for trader/bookcase generation.

That's a fun one, thanks, and I just duplicated it. I was able to hold down ALT and the UI reappeared, and once I sent the caravan it seemed to be ok again. Hardly ideal! I'll start working on it.
