USS Northampton - 1942

Laid down in 1928, and commissioned in 1930, USS Northampton was the lead ship of her class of cruisers. She was originally classified as a light cruiser due to her relatively light armour, although her armament cemented her as a heavy cruiser. She would serve in the Pacific theatre, escorting Enterprise at Midway, as well as attempting to tow the Hornet at Santa Cruz. She would be sunk at the Battle of Tassafaronga in 1942, after being struck by two torpedoes, which also started a large fire.
