House CoA as Title CoA

Description

Have you ever wanted a more Game of Thrones-like feel to the game, where lands are closely tied to the houses that rule them? Have you ever wondered why Ivar the Boneless is suddenly marching his troops under the banner of Alba just because he has gained a new title?

This mod dynamically replaces the coat of arms for landed titles (for both the AI and the player) with that of the ruling house. Titles for which adopting the house CoA wouldn't make sense (e.g. those with certain elective or bureaucratic succession laws) are excluded by default.

Chinese localization: 無壹汉化
French localization: House CoA as Title CoA FR

Features

Title CoAs will update immediately when:
  • The title changes hands (via war, inheritance, usurpation, etc.)
  • The title is created / destroyed
  • The title holder forms a cadet branch with a new CoA
  • The title's adoption rule is changed via the title window

Title CoAs will update after a few in-game months when:
  • The mod's game rules have been changed via Gamerule Gadget
  • The title holder's house CoA has been edited
  • The title holder switches their primary title, and the mod's title game rule = "Primary titles only"
  • The title holder's house head switches, and the mod's house member game rule = "House head only"

If a title becomes ineligible while using a house CoA (for example the title is destroyed or is taken over by an ineligible government type) it will revert to using the original non-house CoA.

Cadet branch CoA generation has been reworked to prevent quartering. There is now a game rule to tweak how they are formed.

UPDATE 04/18/25

Individual titles can now have their house CoA adoption rule changed via the title window. This rule will automatically change to match internal mod logic by default until the player alters it themselves.

If for example the "Administrative adoption" game rule is set to "Do not adopt", then any title that is owned or becomes owned by an administrative ruler will have its rule changed to "Do not adopt" unless the player has already tweaked the rule for that specific title.

Note that if playing multiplayer, non-host players can only change this rule for titles that are their vassal or below (like the vanilla "Customize Title" option).

Compatibility

Compatible with save games with the caveat that it will take a couple of in-game days for the mod to initialize. If you'd like to disable or unsubscribe from the mod mid-game, first set the game rule "Title mode" = "Disabled" to revert titles to their original CoAs.

This mod supports changing its game rules mid-game via Gamerule Gadget with the caveat that it will take a few in-game months for title CoAs to update.

Compatible with any mod that doesn't alter cadet branch creation (the only ones I'm aware of being Happy Heraldry and CMH).

Load in any order.

Related mods

For even more immersion and flavor, I'd recommend using this mod alongside Battleground Commanders. It's also helpful when multiple rulers of the same house are at war to keep track of who's leading which armies.

War Lords so that house members actually lead their own armies. Also pairs well with Battleground Commanders.

Cat's Coat of Arm Family & Title for even better looking dynastic CoAs.

"Titles for which adopting the house CoA wouldn't make sense (e.g. those with certain elective or bureaucratic succession laws) are excluded by default."

you say this but the flag that a lot of people associate with the byzantines is just the Palaiologos banner

I need to brush up on my heraldry knowledge, but IIRC I *think* this is actually rather historical on how a lot of regions got their coat of arms. With Patrum Scuta installed it makes for an unstoppable combo...

I've just released mod version v1.11 that adds a new button to the title window enabling users to specify house CoA adoption rules on a per-title basis (suggestion from @hamletsdead), along with some other changes. See change notes for more details.

This should be in base game honestly. So glad I found this , it's now one of my favorite mods.
