All Frog Species and Variants
By Calcium
For those looking to get the Batrachiologist and Geneticist achievements.
Update 26/03/25 - Looking back, I didn't account for possible ranges in variant genes. Though the codes provided should indeed give you the desired outcome, you may get away with slightly higher/lower values. Please report your findings in the comments along with any corrections and suggestions!

Batrachology Basics
Good luck achievement hunters! You may also be interested in my All Mushrooms and Insects guide.

For those getting into this game with the intent to 100% it, I recommend the following:
  • Setting up base in the Gateway Nexus
  • A workspace clear of wild frogs (if you get lonely, go look for plushies)
  • Getting the Spore Net from the kindergarten as soon as it becomes available so you can collect spores for each mushroom you encounter
  • Lingering around in favourable conditions for a certain mushroom species to collect them in bulk and then almost never having to return to repeat the process - I never bothered with longer-lasting compost, I just made a lot of the cheapest stuff and placed down many cultivators at once, temporarily.
  • Setting down plenty of large crates to keep mushrooms, their pure mud (if it's useful - a lot of dream shroom powders don't do anything by themselves) and their spores.
  • Getting a breeder to get frogspawn without losing gen 1 frogs, and using the spawner for the "stepping stone" frogs you use along the way to getting new species/variants since losing them isn't a concern
  • Using the storage slots on the nursery to help keep track of which mud you need to use next and which you used last - "use next" to the left and "already used" on the right.
  • Keeping crates with backups of your spawner yields - take one spare from each batch laid. In my experience it's fine to discard the third if they show up.
  • Allocating one large crate per species of frog where you should ideally keep two Gen I instances (explained later), some of their unaltered Gen II frogspawn and their variants.
  • Gathering large stockpiles of various insects with a range of flavours. Bitter (pondskater), salty (marshfly/dracofly) and slimy (jellyfish) are all very commonly requested. Umami was one of the least required - but should you need it, it's obtainable from dream state bees in the Kindergarten at night.
  • Making use of the feeder's extra storage slots

Alright, it's now "later" - you'll need a good variety of first generation frogs as a base for those you'll use in ancestry locks!

Remember - frogs are great escape artists. Be sure that wherever you raise the tadpoles, they can't use their new legs to get far before being caught.

Sequential Frogs (Spoilers!)
These have all of their stats set to the same number (Common and Dreamy are in the above sections) or have a genetic key that looks like a cool staircase. I highly recommend only worrying about the all 1s and all 7s frogs first since they're useful in various machines. You'll need to acquire a Generation 1 instance of the former in order to complete the game - from which you'll then be making all the others. It's a bit complicated, so wait until you're in the endgame to pursue these species. On top of that, Soggy Marcher and Waning Bullfrog are awkward to get without a broad range of mushrooms and bases to use anyway.

Note also that 3 of the frogs on this list have every other stat reduced - so you could re-use the same method for each.

Stubby Scamp | 1111111
Slimy Scamp | 111112 | +1 Saturation
Bothered Scamp | 1112111 | +1 Umbrage

Towering Prince | 7777777
Serene Prince | 7771777 | min Umbrage
Lukewarm Prince | 7676767 | Every other stat reduced

Soggy Marcher | 1234567
Arid Marcher | 1234561 | min Saturation
Expanded Marcher | 7234567 | MAX Amplitude

Waning Bullfrog | 7654321
Drenched Bullfrog | 7654327 | MAX Saturation
Waxing Bullfrog | 1654327 | min Amplitude, MAX Saturation

Now, why should you do these next ones in a specific way? It's story relevant, here's why...
In order to reach the pondmother and complete the game, you must offer up a frog with a long ancestral line in which all stats have been raised by 1 every stage, with the exception of the last one which has minimum nobility due to being a Sublime Empyrean. This means you will unlock all of these species along the way.

Second-rate Prowler - 2222222
Sizzling Prowler | 2227222 | MAX Umbrage
Shameless Prowler | 2121212 | Reduce every other stat

Low-Grade Croaker | 3333333
Low-Level Croaker | 2333332 | -1 Amplitude, -1 Saturation
Worthless Croaker | 3232323 | Reduce every other stat

Imperfect Blabber | 6666666
Incessant Blabber | 666766 | MAX Ribbit
Perfect Blabber | 6766666 | MAX Nobility
VIPs (Spoilers!)
Two very special frogs which break previously established moulds.
BEHOLD, THE TRUE BEST FROGS!
Sublime Empyrean | 7177777 | Max everything except nobility which is minimum
True Empyrean | Use x1 Rude Awakening mud on Towering Prince eggs
Sleeping Empyrean | Hatch the eggs in the dream world.

Future Frog | ?!?!?!? | Special
By clearing a fragmented memory in the west of the Gateway Nexus (snoop and sneak around, you'll find a hidden path to the source!) you can find a very cool and groovy secret area with the 30th frog. Don't stare into their genetic code too long, you'll go mad.
Future Friend | ?!?!?!? | Slightly More Special
An even more obvious reference to Mudborne's publisher, Future Friends (they have a super cool website by the way). Find these orange ones amongst the others.
Futuristic Frog ?!?!?!? | Extra Super Duper One-Of-A-Kind Special!
You can find this awesome dude chilling in its own VIP corner. You may have noticed that the local flora creates angles and seems to form a path through the water - let not the depths deter you. You WILL get the final frog variant. Cuz you're as awesome as that frog is B)

Hi! Just a small correction, I tried out 7774444 for the Royal Mudlurker, but it gave me a Longer-Legged Dazzler. However, 755444 worked out for me instead!

Just a heads up but Worthless Croaker is incorrect. Its 3232323 :fancyfrog:
Calcium  [author] 27 Mar @ 4:00am
Yes, very much so! This being said, I noticed something unusual - a gen 1 variant I caught having the same genetic code as the original version. Ancestry might play a part, or it could've just been a bug?
najai 26 Mar @ 8:02am
I noticed that too ! Would it help you if i keep track of the exact values of the genetic keys of my variants ?
Calcium  [author] 25 Mar @ 1:21pm
Thanks for the heads up najai - looks like there's a lot of instances where there's several possible values that can qualify for a particular variant. I'll have to play around to see how the fine details of it work.

Hello, thanks for your amazing guide. I noticed a difference in my game : the Royal Mudlurker had the key : 7754444
Calcium  [author] 24 Mar @ 3:00pm
Ahhh heck I forgot about the preferred flavours bc I never bothered checking them during my gameplay. Ehhh you can check em yerself when you get the frog it'll be fine.
