Preamble
This guide is part of a series looking in detail at each of the vaults currently available. You can find links to the other guides here:

The guide is written from the perspective of a ranger character.
Specific ranged-based combat and techniques will be displayed in this kind of textbox.
Intro
The vault is a level 4 area, meaning it’s a step-up from all previous dungeons. Enemies hit harder and have more hit points.

The guide also jumps around a bit at the start. There are a few moving parts which don't all line up nicely and multiple decisions needs to be made along the way. As an overview you'll need to:
  • Start the quest.
  • Navigate to the quest area.
  • Enter an enemy camp to activate 4 shrines.
  • Enter the vault.
RANGED: Take arrows. Lots and lots of arrows. You'll likely use 100 on the bosses. Don't be surprised if you need to return to camp to get more.

North Fractured Plains
Navigate to this location in the Fractured Plains.

Here you'll encounter Doric, the dwarf you met at the start of the game. He'll give you a quest to enter Ashien's Watch.

Ashien's Watch is the name of the vault.

What he doesn't mention is you'll need to activate 4 shrines to unlock the door to the vault.

The shrines are located in an enemy camp that you'll need to infiltrate.

Getting on with it...
I recommend you rig up a path so you can easily return to Doric, otherwise you’ll need to battle through several enemies to get to the front entrance of his camp.

Between you and the quest location is a broken bridge. Either use your Windstep spell to jump over the gap, or build a permanent path across.

The next decision to make is which approach to take when accessing the shrines. The camp is full of multiple enemies who have overlapping patrol routes. Snipers up high, melee and mages on the ground. Do you go in quiet or loud?

Going in quite

Rig a path across and up to the top of the mountain. If you need wood there are plenty of trees in the area you just came from.

This path enables you to access the area from the side of the cliff without engaging any enemies.

From here you could build a Lodestone, remove everything from your inventory and hotbar and run down into the camp to activate the shrines. Obviously you will stir up all the aggro but it's OK if you die as you'll lose nothing and won't leave a res stone. Simply teleport back, grab your gear and enter the vault.

Going in loud

Pew, pew everything. Activate the shrines and enter the vault.

Shrine locations
The first structure you'll see as you cross the bridge has a sniper on it. The first shrine is also found here, the second is on an elevated outcrop up to the left. Spin around and you'll see the other 2 shrines located deeper in the camp behind pillars. Normally a mage patrols the area near the elevated outcrop, so take note of that if you're going in quite.

Enter the Vault
On entering the vault you'll notice the large, bulbous plants in the area.

Don't get too close otherwise they'll go KABOOM!!

Down the ramp left of the entrance behind a destroyable wall are onions and a tin node.

Past the water to the right behind another destroyable wall is a copper node, some sandstone and a dwellberry plant.

Enter the building and destroy the plants to the right. Some rune essence and a tin node will be accessible once the room is clear. The first enemy you'll face is a Putrid Rat, easily visible because of its fluro eyes and tail.

Two more rats and a Hulk will be just around the corner. Beyond that is a Vault Core, exploding plants and 2 rats. To the right are more exploding plants and a chest.

To the left of the Vault Core is a path down to a waiting Hulk. If you pan your camera you'll see that beyond the Hulk is a patrolling Sentinel. Be careful when you aggro as you may inadvertently pull the Sentinel too.

The area opens up into a large cavern with more exploding plants.

RANGER: To your left is a bridge and more importantly, a large rock outcrop which makes a great sniper's nest. Neither melee or mages can hit you while you're on top of it. Other than a couple of rats, you can pull all remaining enemies to this location and safely defeat them. When pulling enemies from deeper in the vault, jump to the floating board and again to the other side. Using this method won't slow you down, whereas running through the water will. Enemies will either bug out at the water's edge (like they did here), or they'll run up to the rocky outcrop giving you free access to rain arrows down upon them.
Above the sniper's nest is an area accessible with the Windstep spell where you'll find a chest. Windstep again to the other ledge and you'll find 3 copper nodes and some rune essence. Be sure to shoot the exploding plant first before you jump across.
Continue deeper into the vault
Head through the water and the vault will open into a large cavern.

Be careful as you turn the corner as there is an exploding plant hidden from view.

Continue up the path and you'll see a lone Sentinel. The path to the right leads to a room full of exploding plants and 2 tin nodes. The path to the left (past the Sentinel) will lead you up to a Sentinel and 2 Hulks.

To the left of the group is another Sentinel. Enter the waterfall and destroy the wall to find an iron node.

(You may need to jiggle your camera around as you'll likely 'stick' to the waterfall, unable to get through).

Back on the main path you'll see more exploding plants, a chest and a couple of rats.

Pan your camera up to the left and you'll see an opening. Jump up there using your Windstep spell and you'll find another Vault Core, a chest, tin node and an exploding plant.

Jump down, turn the corner and you'll come to the switch.

Bosses
There are two bosses - an Archon and and Overlord. Warriors, time for your stabby stabby :)

RANGER: Make sure you have at least 100 arrows, because these two are damage sponges. It's time to cheese another boss battle! Aggro the bosses and jump back to the other side of the broken bridge. They can't get across. You know what to do :) The Archon is left handed so stand on that side with the wall between you. All magic spells will hit the wall, but all your arrows will hit on its right side. Headshot the Overlord.

Inside the boss chamber is a Vault Core, a chest and a shrine. In my playthrough there was a Tomb of Magic in the chest.

Touching the shrine gives you the thing you were looking for. Return to Doric and complete the quest.

You'll receive several recipes for various components needed to make the Granite Maul, a Tier 3 Masterworks weapon.

Up next is the Stormtouched Highlands vault. Find out more about it here:
