Cryptids
By [ERROR]
AKA the lore of They Shouldn't Be There, a place of creatures not meant to be seen by humanoid eyes.

NOTE: Before anyone mentions this, this is not solely a Creature Creator guide. There is no option to make a guide not around anything so CC was chosen as the basis to stuff this OC guide in. Don't complain about it, we already told you beforehand.

No extra notes currently.

I usually don't make OC guides but maybe this one will stay up! Usually I can't keep up because I have too many but I feel like I've got a chance.

Intro/lore
It all started a long, L O N G, time ago, (actually, everything that ever happened here did) before me, you, or anyone we know were around.

Two Guardians, Venom and one who only goes by Not A Slugcat, created this universe. They used a basic template--aka Earth--and placed the cryptids. They then dedicated their existence to breaching the Highest Plane.

And, for one of the few times in quite possibly quintillions of years, succeeded.

Inhabiting their own universe now, they basically had reality-warping powers at the cost of not being able to control the place as much. However, Not A Slugcat discovered they could look into other 'incomplete' universe and take things from them.

Feathered and Buzzinga, Adnarim and Xam, Uno and Go... they were friends, right?

Nobody could stop them, right?
Safe
These are cryptids that pose little to no harm.

Lucas

Description: Lucas resembles a featherless Hyperling, but with an exoskeleton instead of scales, and only wing stubs. She has 4 brown, pupilless eyes that get brighter near the centre, and her exoskeleton means her movements are very mechanical.

Behaviour: Lucas is friendly, curious and overall ‘not what you’d expect a spider/Hyperaptor hybrid to be.’ She is good with bonds and very harmless. She is concerned easily and often tries to resolve situations with talking. If seen, just act natural.

Origin: Like many cryptids, Lucas was created by B.R.E.F. as an experiment, but was cast into They Shouldn’t Be There by Not A Slugcat after reality bent.

Trivia:
-Her and Sacul are practical siblings, with the same genetic code, just in different amounts. She thinks of Sacul this way despite their lack of sentience.
-Her and Nightmare are the only 2 cryptids that remember B.R.E.F. While Nightmare embraces this new life, Lucas misses the workers and wishes to return.

Bird Mimicker

Description: Bird Mimicker resembles a Quetzalcoatlus, dull in coloration and with a significantly shorter neck and head. From their forehead, a large strand points down to a life-size human mannequin, which it can move freely.

Behaviour: Bird Mimicker's personality can be compared to a small child. They often use their mannequin to prank, confuse and entertain people. If they scares someone enough, they chitter a noise similar to ‘sorry, sorry, sorry’ while flying away. They avoid crowds and being directly seen, often being nocturnal. If seen, act like you never saw them.

Origin: WIP

Trivia:
-The changes to it's upper half are solely because I find it hard to believe something like that would exist otherwise, cryptid or not!

A Starved Dog

Description: A Starved Dog’s top half resembles an entirely black, legless Wobbledog, save for default eyes locked in a default position. It’s lower half turns into around 5 tentacles, which it can use to move around. The creature appears to be made of a black liquid that constantly drips and leaves a trail as it moves, although this doesn’t harm the creature.

Behaviour: A Starved Dog is peaceful, and mostly oblivious to it’s surroundings. It can often be found disassociating in ruined pens or shuffling around similarly to an octopus. It responds to words and attempts to avoid threats but mostly lies around. If seen, act like it's any other Wobbledog.

Origin: A Starved Dog’s backstory is mysterious, but it’s known they were once a Wobbledog that was intentionally starved to death hence the name. The creature burst from the corpse, originally coming from the core. The way this happened is unknown.

Trivia:
-It is a very old character.
-The name of the Wobbledog that was starved is Ignorance. The creature responds to this name.

Uninvited Guest

Description: WIP

Behaviour: Uninvited Guest is surprisingly silent for it's build. It slithers up to windows and simply stares in. It favours dimly lit areas and buildings, and places that are the aftermath of a party. Despite this, it does not cause harm, and if approached, it simply disappears. It has been seen peeking over fences as well, but this is rare.

Origin: some hole in the ground (WIP)

Trivia:
-Created in CC.
Euclid
These cryptids pose a moderate amount of harm or are otherwise unpredictable.

The Peel

Description: The Peel resembles a Hyperling, however it is slightly smaller than average. It is rainforest green, with a red line down its side. It is easy to identify by the fact that no matter what, its teeth are always bared. When the creatures separate, a fleshy, unnaturally smooth layer is revealed where they would connect.

Behaviour: The Peel is an ambush predator. It often stalks it prey for extended periods of time before striking. The two halves must separate to feed; however the lower half is blind and the top half cannot move by itself. If seen, try to keep your distance, avoid being seen, and flee if they separate.

Origin: Like many cryptids, The Peel was created by B.R.E.F. as an experiment, but was cast into They Shouldn’t Be There by Not A Slugcat after reality bent.

Trivia:
-The Peel was the first B.R.E.F. cryptid created.

Sacul

Description: Sacul vaguely resembles a hyperaptor, with four spider legs, only wing stubs and four grey compound eyes. They have dark grey feathers (furthers?) and walk mechanically. They have a shorter-than-average tail which they can spin silk from.

Behaviour: Sacul is stealthy, non-sentient and ‘exactly what you’d expect a spider/Hyperaptor hybrid to be.’ They have poor eyesight and rely on sound and vibrations to hunt. They often choose large, empty, enclosed spaces as their webbing grounds. They will eat anything that gets stuck. If seen, RUN.

Origin: Like many cryptids, Sacul was created by B.R.E.F. as an experiment, but was cast into They Shouldn’t Be There by Not A Slugcat after reality bent.

Trivia:
-Sacul and Lucas are practical siblings, with the same genetic code, in different amounts. Lucas thinks of Sacul this way despite their lack of sentience.
-Sacul has canonically met and fought Nightmare and lost.

I T

Description: I T resembles an adult dark grey hyperaptor, but with a hooked beak. I T’s eyes look as if dripping. I T’s neck has odd protrusions hanging from it, and a hook on the end of I T’s wings. I T’s arm feathers have yellow lines resembling eyes and I T has an extremely long tail ripped at the end.

Behaviour: I T is reckless, in an almost-blind manner. I T is impervious to most damage and stops at nothing to destroy whatever provokes I T. I T appears to have a basic understanding of the world as I T flees from things like explosions. I T appears to be able to corrupt files.

Origin: I T’s origin is mysterious, but it’s known I T used to be a normal Hyperaptor, who was corrupted into I T by an unknown force after resisting Their control. They lost all their former memories and became a mindless beast.

Trivia:
-Another very old character. In more ways than one!
-Excluding gods like Venom, I T has existed for the longest time of any cryptid.

Venom

Description: Venom is an impossibly long black serpent, that can create a mouth and white eyes on their head at will. Rather than legs, they have a set of human hands each of which have fake red eyes above them. They speak with a slither and a hint of carelessness and cheer.

Behaviour: Despite their dangerous appearance, Venom is rather careless and carefree. They are manipulative if they wish, but mostly joke around and watch things from afar. They are oblivious and usually don’t realise exactly what they cause. If seen, try to keep your distance.

Origin: See Intro/Lore.

Trivia:
-I originally intended for them to have three tentacles at their end but I decided on them just being indefinite like Long Horse.

Landscape Worm

Description: The Landscape Worm resembles a Void Worm greatly, however it lacks the glowing orb and has a less disproportionate head. It lacks the 'hands' entirely, and has small fins all along it's body. The most defining feature is the fact that it has a mouth, which contains uncountable rows of sharp teeth similarly to a shark.

Behaviour: At first, the Landscape Worm behaves like a Void Worm; closely observing those who approach it's domain. However, rather than hooking and Ascending them it just eats them. If not feeding it flies around it's proportionally small domain or hiding in the lake, which may be a Void lake as it shouldn't be able to fit in there. If seen, simply stay out of it's domain.
Note: Marked as Euclid not Keter because it only eats one person per observation and doesn't go outside it's domain making it easy to escape.

Origin: WIP

Trivia:
-It's EXACTLY one kilometre long.
-Domain in more detail: A flat area with a lake in the centre, surrounded by hills that appear to protect it. It's not on any maps, suggesting it appeared recently, and is in an unspecified temperate Asian country.
Keter
These cryptids are extremely dangerous.

The Demon

Description: The Demon is a quadrupedal, maroon creature. Rather than a head, it has a large mouth akin to a Demogorgon. It has toeless, elephant-like feet and yellow marking as false eyes. Instead of a tail, it has a tree-like growth with large red orbs at the end of each ‘branch’. White, bony spines protrude from its back, creating bleeding wounds that cannot heal. It pays no attention to these.

Behaviour: The Demon is blind, and prefers semi-urban areas. It uses hearing to hunt, but can also ‘sense fear’ and uses that instead of sight. It is reckless in pursuit, and locks out all other input if hunting. It is surprisingly agile for its build. If seen, try to squash down your fear and back off until it goes after something else.

Origin: Like many cryptids, The Demon was created by B.R.E.F. as an experiment, but was cast into They Shouldn’t Be There by Not A Slugcat after reality bent.

Trivia:
-Created in CC.

Nightmare

Description: Nightmare has a slim, black build, with eight spider legs. Their tail is extremely long with a blue fin at the end that gets darker at the centre. They have green spikes across their back, and eight yellow eyes. They also appear to have eight more on their lower jaw, but these are non-functional.

Behaviour: Nightmare is sentient, cunning and manipulative. They possess a degree of mind reading, allowing them to take advantage of people’s fears before striking. They can speak but often don't. They can also walk on walls. If seen, do not.

Origin: Like many cryptids, Nightmare was created by B.R.E.F. However, Nightmare was an accidental creation, and escaped many times. They were cast into They Shouldn’t Be There by Not A Slugcat after reality bent.

Trivia:
-Excluding I T, Nightmare was the first cryptid created.
-Sacul has canonically met and fought Nightmare and lost.

Uncanny Valley

Description: Uncanny Valley has no singular form. Rather, they take the form of their previous target, but with differences that cause a feeling of discomfort hence the name (e.g. A human with 12 fingers and no ears, or an earless, three-legged cat).

Behaviour: Uncanny Valley focuses on mimicry, using their ‘disguises’ to lure prey before briefly shifting to feed. If confronted, they will attempt to masquerade as the target, often not very well. They avoid crowds, often luring creatures to solitude. Uncanny Valley is sentient, rather than taking the intelligence of their form. If seen... no you didn't. You didn't. That's all.

Origin: Uncanny Valley is a Shiftid that willingly entered They Shouldn't Be There after seeing the rift the other B.R.E.F. cryptids entered through. They are one of the three known Shiftids.

Trivia:
-The description is vague on purpose! Do what you want! (no it is not guaranteed to remove ears).
-This was originally only Galaxy, then I thought “what if I do this to everyone”
-Uncanny Valley does not shapeshift into herbivores and dislikes omnivores for obvious reasons. They make an exception for humans.

Go Ahead, Follow Them
NOTICE: Memetic hazard, do not go near the entity after reading this information.

Description: Go Ahead, Follow Them resembles a salamander, but slightly bigger than a saltwater crocodile, and one orange line across it's back. Instead of a head, it has a mechanical object grossly fused to it's neck. The metal plate includes 4 prongs and a large yellow 'eye' covering it's head. Blood can occasionally be seen leaking from this plate.

Behaviour: Go Ahead, Follow Them is able to move on land but is best in water, able to move swiftly despite it's bulkiness. It prefers to hunt on cruise ships. It's hunting method is bizarre; it moves to a hidden part of the ship, and begins to play a certain frequency loudly. Anyone who hears this will hear it as their favourite song or otherwise a song they feel pulled to. Once in the same room, the entity takes control and [DATA EXPUNGED]. Eventually, when the entity is done, the people will crumble into dust that will occasionally be seen following the entity. It then returns to the sea, often destroying things on purpose.

Trivia:
-In the event you were immune to the entity, you would hear white noise.
-It's effect can be easily avoided by wearing earmuffs or already playing a song. However, getting too close to the entity still activates [DATA EXPUNGED].
-The entity, if it learns of information about it being published readily, will change it to song lyrics even without otherwise interacting. This can be done without it being spoken, just the entity being near the publisher or someone who's read it.
-Created in CC.

Not A Slugcat

Description: Not A Slugcat, as their name implies, resembles a dark navy Slugcat. They have red, unblinking eyes and a W mouth similar to Inv/Enot. Fleshy, red-tipped tentacles that resemble Rot erupt from their back, and their tail is extremely sharp. They have uncannily human hands and can reveal a second, more scary mouth at will.

Behaviour: Unlike Venom, Not A Slugcat prefers to stray close to their creations, often watching from shadows and/or at night. They are not very vocal but are attentive and never miss a beat. If you see them, do not speak of them. Do not think of them. Do not comprehend them. D̴̹̈́̈̋̽o̶̧͍̦̒̓̑͒ ̸̖̉͑ǹ̵̡̔́̃ͅo̸͇͉͙̦͈͋t̷̲͐ ̶̛͉.̶͇̆̋.̴͓̝̱̬̝̈.̷̟͖͇̟̈͝.̷̧̩̜̖̺́̌̿.̶̻̈́̈́͑͝

Origin: See Intro/Lore.

Trivia:
-I debated making them a joke SCP but decided to make them a Guardian.
