😡 Close Shut The Jaws Of 100% CPU / GPU Usage 😡
So, we are back with another banger dropped by Bethesda. 💯💯💯

Unfortunately this is also beating my GPU and CPU to death like Mike Tyson in his prime. So how can we fix these issues? You came to the right place. Lets go ahead and start smashing some of these issues apart.
On-wards to the fixes. 🚀🚀
Some Common Stuff
  • First & foremost. If you have an SSD. Install this game onto your SSD or, NVME drive. Please for the love of god don't put this game on your HDD unless you're ok with spending 900 years in the loading screen & other issues.

  • Secondly go and update your graphics drivers.
    AMD go here -> https://www.amd.com/en/support/download/drivers.html
    NVIDIA go here -> https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/drivers/

  • Thirdly if you are using an RTX card. NVIDIA’s 576.15 hotfix driver (or newer) is essential to fix crashes and performance bugs – Bethesda specifically advises using “Hotfix Driver 576.15 for best performance.” https://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5650

  • AMD users should install the Adrenalin 23.4.1 (25.4.1) or newer, which “added support” for Oblivion Remastered and contains relevant bug-fixes

  • Applications that you are not actively using while playing. Close them. I know you want to share your experience by sharing your screen to your discord kitten but, you're going to have to bite the bullet on that one till Bethesda roll out some patches and hot-fixes to make the game more stable. chat programs, web browsers, and music streaming services can take up more memory and CPU use than expect. I know it sucks but hey it be like that.

  • Double check your system specs compared to the Minimum Specs & Recommended Specs
on the store page for oblivion. I know 100% someone out there is trying to run this game on Ultra and they have a 1070. Shockingly surprised to see that their game is not working. If that's you, bless your heart

Updates To The Guide 4/24 📅
So some more stuff regarding fixes have come out. In here I'm going to list some mods that are highly rated & downloaded to improve your performance experience. Check them out.

Ultimate Engine Tweaks (Anti-Stutters - Lower Latency - No Film Grain - No Chromatic Aberration - Lossless)
https://www.nexusmods.com/oblivionremastered/mods/35
Apparently this mod fixes ALOT of the FPS problems people are having with their game. This is just a few of the comments in there. The praise goes on & on.
AMD Fixes & Resources 🧩
Using AMD? Lets see if we can diagnose your problem & fix it 🌚
  • I found all this on this reddit page: https://www.reddit.com/r/ElderScrolls/comments/1k5e8zq/oblivion_remastered_keeps_causing_full_system/?rdt=51197

  • Lot's of people are apparently using this. So, if you're an AMD user try downloading it? I guess. https://www.amd.com/en/products/software/adrenalin.html

  • One of the users suggested this. Disabling ALL graphics settings in AMD adrenalin, disabling ALL overlays, (steam, AMD, and discord), running the game in administrator mode, and finally launching the game through AMD adrenalin

    Another user suggested this
  • Switch to XeSS (didn't work on it's own)
  • Update to the latest drivers (didn't work on it's own)
  • Disable all custom settings in AMD Adrenaline (didn't work on it's own)
  • Undervolting my GPU in AMD Adrenaline could fix the issue. But it didn't work for me.
  • Disable the Discord overlay
  • Disable the AMD Overlay
  • Limit FPS to 60
  • Disable AMD FSR3

Another user suggested this but, it didn't look like it worked for them. For one guy it did but, who knows am i right? 🤷🏻
  • Crashes are caused by one of nvidia's .dll files that ship with the game.
and delete or rename the file sl.pcl.dll

    Another user suggested this
  • Tried a few things, but what seemed to work was opening amd adrenaline, going to oblivion and disabling Fluid Motion Frames. Then I launched it thru adrenaline and it stopped crashing every time I opened a crate or sack or inventory of any kind. Who knows but it's worth a shot.

None of this worked? Google.com is your best option. Good luck.

Nvidia Fixes & Resources 🧩
  • Update Your GPU Drivers: This is the first step for both NVIDIA and AMD users. NVIDIA’s 576.15 hotfix driver (or newer) is essential to fix crashes and performance bugs – Bethesda specifically advises using “Hotfix Driver 576.15 for best performance.”

  • Disable Nvidia Overlay

  • Use Upscaling (DLSS/FSR) and Frame Generation: Both NVIDIA DLSS 4 and AMD FSR 3 (with frame generation on supported GPUs) are included in the remaster. Utilizing these can significantly improve performance. For example, a Radeon 6700 XT got ~60–90 FPS at 1440p by using FSR on Medium settings. Likewise, a 4070 Ti achieved ~70–90 FPS at 4K using DLSS Balanced

Honestly I did not find much about Nvidia stuff. Just reference the beginning of the guide. "On-wards to the fixes. 🚀🚀" & "Some Extra's that are worth looking into. 🪄"
Some Extra's that are worth looking into. 🪄
This is some more stuff you can try taking a look into to see if you can improve your oblivion experience and the frames as-well. This is pretty much stuff that I found online that might be able to help you out.

Half of this extra stuff I found online the other half I just asked Chatgpt good luck chef.

Update Your GPU Drivers
  • This is the first step for both NVIDIA and AMD users. NVIDIA’s 576.15 hotfix driver (or newer) is essential to fix crashes and performance bugs – Bethesda specifically advises using “Hotfix Driver 576.15 for best performance.” AMD users should install the Adrenalin 23.4.1 (25.4.1) or newer, which “added support” for Oblivion Remastered and contains relevant bug-fixes. New drivers also ensure shader compilation is optimized for the game.

    Disable Overlays and Background Apps
  • Overlays from Steam, Discord, AMD/NVIDIA software, etc. can conflict with the game. If you experience weird crashes (especially full system freezes), turn these off. Steam overlay and Xbox Game Bar are known to cause performance drops and input lag as well, so disabling them can improve stability. Likewise, close any unnecessary programs (browsers, video capture, RGB controllers) to free up CPU/GPU resources

    Lower Intensive Settings
  • If you hit a crash or slide-show framerate in a particular spot, try temporarily lowering settings. Reducing the ray tracing quality (Lumen) to Low or Off and dropping to Medium textures can dramatically lighten the load at the cost of some visuals. One user could not exit the tutorial area on Ultra without crashing, but had success on Low settings. After passing the problematic area, you can gradually raise settings again. Additionally, capping the framerate (e.g. to 60 FPS) may prevent runaway usage that overheats your CPU/GPU in menus or load screens. Some users even reported needing to un-cap or cap globally via driver to get the game stable in the first place essentially, experiment with frame limiter or V-Sync if you suspect timing issues.

Use Upscaling (DLSS/FSR) and Frame Generation:
  • Both NVIDIA DLSS 4 and AMD FSR 3 (with frame generation on supported GPUs) are included in the remaster. Utilizing these can significantly improve performance. For example, a Radeon 6700 XT got ~60–90 FPS at 1440p by using FSR on Medium settings Likewise, a 4070 Ti achieved ~70–90 FPS at 4K using DLSS Balanced. These technologies not only raise framerates but also reduce aliasing, tackling two issues at once. Just be sure to use the latest drivers, as there were reports of DLSS frame generation issues in early versions (most have been patched by drivers and game updates).

    Verify Files and Reinstall DirectX
  • If crashes persist, verify your game installation through Steam or the Xbox app. This will fix any missing or corrupted files that could cause graphical glitches. Also, run the DirectX End-User Runtime installer. Oblivion Remastered uses DirectX 12, so ensuring all the DirectX 12 components and redistributables are properly installed can solve launch errors or “d3d device” issues.

Adjust Windows Settings: On Windows 10/11, check your Graphics Settings to make sure the game is using the correct GPU
    • (especially on laptops with both integrated and dedicated GPUs)
    • Set your Windows power plan to High Performance to prevent the system from downclocking the GPU/CPU mid-game. If you have Windows Security’s Ransomware Protection on, head to Windows Security > Virus & threat protection > Manage ransomware protection > Allow an app through controlled folder access, and whitelist OblivionRemastered-Win64-Shipping.exe. This prevents the fatal error on exit and allows the game to save properly. Likewise add the game to any antivirus exclusion list to avoid it being blocked. Running the game as an Administrator (right-click the EXE > Properties > Compatibility > “Run this program as an admin”) is also recommended by Bethesda as it can resolve permission-related crashes.

Clear Shader Cache after Driver Updates: If you updated your GPU driver and then noticed new stutters or weirdness, you may need to force the game to recompile shaders. The community discovered the game doesn’t always auto-detect the driver change
    • You can fix this by deleting the shader cache or config in your Documents\My Games\Oblivion Remastered folder (the game will regenerate it). This can eliminate stuttering caused by old shader data that doesn’t match the new driver.

Following these workarounds has helped many players stabilize their game. Bethesda may also release patches to address these graphical issues in upcoming updates. As of the current release, crashes around the tutorial exit and performance hiccups on NVIDIA GPUs are the major concerns, while AMD users benefit from better optimization but should still update drivers and tweak settings as needed. By applying the fixes above – driver updates, overlay disabling, setting adjustments, and Windows config changes – you might get the results you're looking for.

End Of The Line 🚅
Hopefully the stuff I posted here helps you out on making your game run better.
Obviously some stuff may or may not work for you which is expected. It is a new game and because of that its not really optimized. Unfortunately this is common in new game titles these days. I'm sure Bethesda will have some fixes and patches come along to improve performance but for now this is all I got for now in regards to helping you fix your oblivion. Good luck traveler. After I downloaded the mod and did some changes i get a full 120 FPS everywhere i go. I'm running a RTX 4070 TI Super & Intel I9-14900k. This is my task manager while running the game
