Pegasus Bridge [Mission]

The purpose of capturing the Pegasus Bridge was to ensure the safety of the eastern wing of the Operation Monarch landing force and prevent the German army from launching a massive counterattack. The eastern wing of the landing force was separated by the Orne River and the Caen Canal. The Pegasus Bridge and the Horsa Bridge were the only passages to the landing zone through the Orne River and the Caen Canal. As long as these two bridges were successfully captured, the safety of the eastern wing of the landing force could be guaranteed.
