In a nutshell, I'd sum it up as visual novels, but with real life actors & actresses. This one specifically is an romance asian fmv (full-motion video) regarding a guy who wants to direct a film or something (I haven't gotten that far yet).

fmv is somewhat on the rise again over in asia (mainly China & Korea) with most of them being romance, but there are couple of action & horror-oriented ones as well. Unfortunately though a lot of fmv either don't have English translation or a very poor one (probably machine translated), but it is what it is.
