According to lore the Ayleids may have settled in High Rock, Hammerfell and Skyrim along the Druacach, Dragontooth and Jerall Mountains, in Skyrim the western and southern mountain ranges in the non-snowy areas (The Reach, Falkreath Hold and The Rift).
