Enabling HDR (For those with HDR Monitors)
By MonkInsane
A quick guide on how to enable HDR for Tainted Grail using Special-K, for those who have an HDR monitor and are still on Windows 10.

(If you are on Windows 11, you can just use the Auto-HDR feature)

Installing Special-K into the game.
Requirements:

Windows 10
HDR Monitor
HDR enabled in Display Settings
Special K Standalone - not the Installer.

Dowload Special K from HERE[sk-data.special-k.info]

Exctact the archive to a folder called Special-K inside your Tainted Grail directory, then rename SpecialK64.dll to dxgi.dll.

Copy dxgi.dll to your Tainted Grail - the Fall of Avalon installation directory - it should be in the same directory as the game executable.

And that is it. You can now launch the game. You'll know the installation was successful because you'll get this popup in-game:

If you have issues where you get an error saying "cannot find steam" or something to that effect, check the dxgi.ini and search for the line containing "SteamPipeDLL=" in the [Steam.System] section.

Make sure the path in there points to GAMEBASEDIR\SpecialK\PlugIns\ThirdParty\Steamworks\steam_api_sk64.dll
Enabling HDR Support using Special-K
Now that we've got Special-K up and running, we can begin enabling and configuring HDR for the game.

To open the Special-K interface, Press CTRL + SHIFT + BACKSPACE on your keyboard, the following window will open:

At the TOP, click on HDR:

Click on HDR Setup on the menu:

The Following Window will Open top Right of screen:

Select scRGB HDR (16-bpc) - this will expand the windw exposing all the options, you'll also notice in the background the game suddenly looks horreandous - don't worry about it - we got some configuring to do:

Firstly, select HDR Preset 1 from the Top-Right:

Then Click on the "Profile Display Capabilities" Button - another small window will open and your display will change to a checkered test image:

Adjust the luminance Clipping Point to the minimum value it takes for the checkered image to become a pure white image, then Click on OK.

Now, from the Content EOTF dropdown box, select Linear(otherwise your game will be too dark):

And that's it! You can now close all the Special-K windows. Enjoy playing the game with HDR enabled. Feel free to play with the color boost etc settings to get it just the way you like it.

Only caveat is it needs to be a DX 11 or DX 12 Title.

@Seklero Yeah, this procedure works just fine for other games as well. Not just for Tainted Grail.

At my experience native hdr support in games rarely works right. This solution on the other hand provide really good experience. I will try it in the other games.
P.S. HDR 1400 capable display.

@Seklero - Pleasure man, it's a pity the game does not have native HDR support.

Thank you for the guide works like a charm.

@BlackDragon - Try this:

Exctact the archive to a folder called Special-K inside your Tainted Grail directory, then rename SpecialK64.dll to dxgi.dll.

Copy dxgi.dll to your Tainted Grail - the Fall of Avalon installation directory - it should be in the same directory as the game executable.

Run game so DXGI.ini gets created.

Then check the dxgi.ini and search for the line containing "SteamPipeDLL=" in the [Steam.System] section.

Make sure the path in there points to YOURGAMEBASEDIR\SpecialK\PlugIns\ThirdParty\Steamworks\steam_api_sk64.dll

Then you've run into something I have not.

Mine works just fine.

I think I found your issue though, looking through DXGI.INI - can you search for this line and tell me its value:

SteamPipeDLL=

Pirated copy? Seriously? I've got it on Steam ffs.

I know where my saves are, they're still there. I put the files exactly as told into the main directory, SpecialK does launch with the game (its windows appear), but when I get into the main menu it tells me there's no Steam installation.

When I delete the dxgi file, everything goes back to normal. So it's absolutely the fault of this mod.

@Blackdragon - I have the steam version of the game and had no such issue. You did something wrong, or are trying to use it on a pirated copy.

Your saves are located at C:\Users\username\AppData\LocalLow\Questline\Fall of Avalon\[number]\Saved

This thing broke my game, now it says "cannot find Steam installation" and doesn't see any save games. WTF?
