Basics
Items are central to the gameplay of Helen's Mysterious Castle. There are weapons like the Longbow, spells like Thunder, and accessories that provide passive boosts like the Power Bangle. You use items to win battles, which give you exp, which you can then spend to upgrade your items; that is the only use of exp in this game, so spend your exp early and often.

Weapons have the following stats:
Eff: The effectiveness (damage) of the weapon
Def: The defense of the weapon, which is substracted from the damage of enemy attacks
Wait: The speed of your weapon, the lower the wait time the more often you get to act
Lvup: The exp cost of leveling up a weapon to the next level

Another way to upgrade items, is to ask the Blacksmith in the town to help you. The blacksmith will start upgrading your items after you use the Heal spell to cure his wife. There's a cooldown between the blacksmith upgrading an item, and him being able to upgrade the next one; you need to win 15 battles between every upgrade by the Blacksmith. The upside is that the Blacksmith can upgrade items to a higher level than Helen can on her own.

There are accessories like the Power Bangle that add a flat bonus to the Eff of all your weapons and spells, but it won't cause a 0-Effectiveness shield to deal damage.

There are 28 different items in Helen's Mysterious Castle, but you have a max inventory capacity of 8 items. You'll soon have more items than capacity to carry them; when this happens, just drop items you're not using. After defeating the Griffon boss in the first dungeon, you unlock the Storage Room, where most items end up after you drop them; towards the end of the game, there are 4 items that don't go to the Storage Room when dropped, but you can always reacquire them later and the guide points out where to do so.

After defeating the Griffon, you can reach the Storage Room by starting at Helen's house, going to the right and down and down the stairs, then into the door to the right.

Speed Shoes: Found in the third floor, in the area leading up to the Demon King, behind a green door next to the room's entrance. Going through a blue door opens green doors, green doors open pink doors, and pink doors open blue doors.
