Before we begin
Before we begin you should know how to use blender and gmod addon creation before reading this guide i will not teach you how to do all that.
Software
your going to need this specific software yo view and export source 2 models.

Source 2 Viewer [valveresourceformat.github.io]

Basic software you need for gmod
  • Blender + SMD tools
  • Crowbar
  • GCFScape
  • VTF

YOU NEED THE LATEST BLENDER

Step 1 exe
Open the software after installing it

Step 2 File
Top left click on "File"
step 3 Open File
After clicking on "File" click on "Open"
step 4 Explore
Now a file explorer opens and you need to find a source 2 game go to the directory of that game and try to find this file format like "pak01_dir.vpk"
step 5 Find it
Find yourself a model in source 2 they are named "Combine_locker01.vmdl_c" Example model for this guide you can double click on the model to view it.

Or you can click on "Find" and type a keyword to search a model.

Step 6 model viewer
Now your in model view you can play around with animation (if it has animations) or play around the view.
Step 7 export
Alright lets export this model

Right click on the model name on the tab and your going to see a view options to export it.

We want to "Decompile & Export" then the file format needs to be "gltf" DO THIS IN A FOLDER

step 8 blender
now open blender import the model / models then resize them to source size (for some reason if you want a model in source you need to size them larger)

OR you can just delete the the bone and the model wil auto size to source size

you might also want to hide the bones for now if its too large on the screen

Delete this in order to see the bones btw the bones are big when you delete it

ALSO
make sure you resize the model to source size otherwise your model gonne be a small and not normal.

Step 9 animations
Now if you open the bones you going to see "Animations" and "NLA Tracks" Animations is the current animation being played and the NLA tracks is what animation it can play.

If you click on the bones then to "object" then unfold "Animations" you can select what animations to play or export (by using the SMD tools)

Step 10 compile and debug
Now just edit the model the way you like or just export it as is the make the QC file all that fun stuff then go to your source game files but it in your "addons" folder and just check if it works

your pretty much done tbh unless the whole thing is wrong and the textures are screwed then you need to debug your model or texture you can also export the textures just play around the items and pray it works

Final
congrats your done witht the nightmare of being a workshop dev

if you completed this guide congrats you sir you deserve a medel of source2tosource1 badge
