The Wright County Sheriff’s Office, founded in 1874, began as a small outpost with just a sheriff and two deputies, serving the farming towns and mining camps of rural Wright County, Tennessee. As the county grew through railroads and industry, the department expanded to tackle challenges like moonshining and organized crime.

By the mid-20th century, Wright County had developed into a busy suburban region, similar to nearby Knoxville. The Sheriff’s Office modernized with specialized units and community policing, balancing its historic roots with the demands of today’s complex criminal investigations and suburban growth.
