preface
getting tired of having your screenshot gallery having pixelated or blurry like this?

process
The fastest (and dirtiest) way to fix this is this:
  1. from steam client > View > Recordings & Screenshots

  2. right click on a screenshot of the game, select Show on Disk

  3. in the screenshot folder, COPY the images to thumbnails folder, and pick "Replace the files in the destination"

  4. Done!! when you share the image, the thumbnail will be crystal clear
Note: this only works for screenshots you have not uploaded yet, will not fix the ones you already uploaded, unless you delete it from the website and reupload it.

Big Note: This is a very dirty way to do it. The drawback: You will take more space for this screenshot (each user has 19GB of space from steam) AND it will take longer to load your screenshot gallery, since the viewer has to download high res pictures instead (mobile data and low speed user will cry when opening your gallery)

Here's a better way to do it:
  1. from steam client > View > Recordings & Screenshots

  2. right click on a screenshot of the game, select Show on Disk

  3. in the screenshot folder, COPY the images to thumbnails folder, and pick "Replace the files in the destination"

  4. Now open the thumbnail folder, and resize the image to a respectable size.
Note: Steam default thumbnail have 200 pixels as the width as default. I find 400pixels is a fine compromise for clear picture vs file size. Some user recommend 600, others 800. Feel free to experiment, and drop a comment below what you think.

  5. You can use your preferred application to resize the images.

The tool that i recommend is Image Resizer from Microsoft (free) Because it supports batch image resizing, and you can access it directly from explorer context menu (it's also blazing fast).
    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/powertoys/image-resizer
    • After Image Resizer is installed, select the image/multiple images you want to share, right click and pick "Resize with Image Resizer"
    • here's the setting that i use:

  6. When you're done with the image resizing, you're done! you can now share the screenshot to steam as usual
